New owner, confused about using points

Hello,
We recently bought a Wyndham Club Access timeshare through eBay, so the transfer isn't final yet, and we don't have access to the website yet.
This is just a general question as I am brand new to timesharing! :)

We should get access sometime this fall. If we wanted to make a reservation this fall, to stay in February 2021, would we be using our points from 2020 or 2021?
I *think* our use year begins on the 1st of every year.

Thank you, Angela

It really depends where you want to go in February. Florida can be pretty busy. How long has Wyndham had your paperwork? They usually say 14-16 weeks and that really isn't too far off the mark.

The use year of the points match when you are arriving and the reservation transactions math the year you make the reservation. If you make a reservation for Feb 2021 in November 2020, it will use your 2021 points and one 2020 reservation transaction.

I'm hoping to find any 3 weekdays in February, but I know that I will have to be extremely flexible. ;) We literally just bought it a week ago, so it will be maybe September at the earliest?

Assuming that you do have a Jan-December use year: You will be outside of your point depositing being a new owner although lately they have been nice about it so they may allow you to do it. That should be your first order of business. You can always borrow points when you are booking 90 days or less out, and by the time that you get points, you will just about only have that many days left in 2020. Or you can deposit them to RCI.

Weekdays are typically easier to book than weekends, plus they cost less points.

I've found it to be the opposite with remaining Clearwater inventory. I can never find a 2 weeknight reservation in the summer, but weekend ones are easier. 1 bedrooms cost 50,000 points on the weekend and 30,000 points on the weekday, so that's probably why.

Clearwater is expensive. I don't think that I've ever paid 50,000 points for a night.

Points Deposit
The Use Year deposit window for your points has been temporarily extended to the last day of your points expiration date. The quickest and easiest way to deposit your points is online. All fees will be waived and fees already paid by owners who have made their deposit as of March 13, 2020, will be refunded within 45 days.

  • Expiring Points
Expiring points will be automatically deposited into RCI at the end of your Use Year. No action is needed on your part, and your points will be extended for two more years of travel within RCI.

@cbyrne1174 I am not following what this means: You will be outside of your point depositing being a new owner although lately they have been nice about it so they may allow you to do it.
Thank you in advance for your help. :) Angela

If you have leftover points at the end of 2020, you will have to deposit them into your free RCI account. Non VIP owners can only deposit current year points into a future year within the first 3 months of their use year.

For example, if you know you won't be traveling in 2022, you can deposit those points into 2023 or 2024 any time before March 31st, 2022. This costs $39.
You can also deposit your 2022 points into RCI any time before Dec 31st 2022. This costs $19 or 1 reservation transaction.

See a earlier post above. Wyndham is allowing points to be deposited until the last day of use for all owners this year.

Yes, and the only difference between Access and Select is maintenance fees and ARP. I only pay $5.63 per thousand points and get 10 month booking ability. You pay $6.9 per thousand points and get 13 months booking ability.
