I attended a sales presentation some months ago and ended up buying ~100k points annually. I did some pretty light research right after, but didn't dig deep. Looks like I probably should have :D. That said, I am excited about having these points - I think it'll be good for my family. We have 4 young kids, so we have many years of vacations as a big family ahead of us.

I am finding that the ~100k we have probably doesnt go very far so I'm starting to look into buying enough to double that. I definitely want to take advantage of resales for that, I've read a few threads here and seen some articles in other places. Seems like there's quite a few that can be "bought" for basically nothing. I don't have a sense of how common it is to get more points for $0 total though. I see quite a few listings on ebay < $100 with buyer paying the $299 transfer fee - or whatever it is. I see a few where the seller covers all of the costs. Any tips on what I should reasonably expect? What kinds of questions should I ask about these? I imagine there can be some gotchas with a transfer like that?

The sales guy that we talked to when we bought our points gave us a certificate for something with RCI that sounded like something special, but seems like it's just an extra vacation getaway at the same cost. Those seem be ~$300 for a week at some resort in a short window - like 6 weeks or something? He mentioned some other benefits to being able to use RCI. Maybe something around not having to use points for bookings through RCI? What's going on there? I see something about transferring points into RCI to be used, and I see some last minute trip sorts of offers for a few hundred dollars.

Also, I have my first stay booked in September 2020 at Bonnet Creek in Orlando. Should I expect more sales pressure during my time there? Will the staff there try to push to attend meetings and things? Is that a common sort of thing at these resorts?

Look through the sticky thread on 2020 MFs in order to understand the differences in costs between the various resorts in Wyndham. This will help you in figuring out whether or not one you see on eBay is a good deal overall, putting things in a more total cost of ownership frame with a slightly higher up front cost for resorts with lower fees (e.g., Bali Hai or Canterbury). If you’re ok with slightly higher fees, you can occasionally find Wyndham points free on timesharenation.com, but would need to keep an eye almost daily on their inventory page at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Drg71NVXGz8jKbq8h9TAwLw1CxRCdLAZ1j8upwjTXic/htmlview.

I'm not sure I understand the relationship to the resort listed with the points. Is there something I could read that would clear that up?
I thought I read somewhere that the MF was some dollar amount per point?

You can own Wyndham points as part of a trust, Club Wyndham Access, that owns a collection of resorts and costs a blended fee, currently $6.27 per 1,000 points, plus the program fee IIRC. You can also own a specific resort under what is referred to as Club Wyndham Select; in that case you pay the fees for just that resort, which can be more or less than the CWA fees. There are also some ownerships that had been weeks at some resorts that Wyndham bought and added to Club Wyndham that we’re later converted to points, but at different values based on the season, and so have different costs per point because the underlying week had a flat share of the fees, but more or less point value.

The portion of the directory that covers how Club Wyndham is the best place to read about the differences because it’s authoritative, but the easiest place to find the relative costs is the TUG member postings in the MF sticky thread. There you’ll see a range of the different costs TUGGERS are paying, including some resorts that have different reported costs due to converted weeks.

Can I simply opt to not go to these sales meetings?
Probably. Depends how it was booked, if it was under a special incentive it might have a required sales meeting

You are not required to attend any updates (sales meetings) no matter what they try to tell you is wrong with your account or what promotion or mailing, email etc you missed out on. They can get really creative on ways to get you to say yes.

When looking to purchase resale points, unless you need a specific resort for ARP (Advance Reservation Priority-13 months out), you should look for low maintenance fee (MF) resorts. That is why a previous poster referred you to the MF thread in the stickies at the top of the Wyndham forum. The up front cost to acquire it may be a little higher but if you are going to keep it for several years, the lower MF will make up for the that in savings. The fees are shown as $ per K. Anything between $5-6 per K is good. Below $5 is great. Above $6 is meh. Above $7 you really want to stay away from. Take your time as plenty of deeds come and go. And just ask if you have more questions.

The MF per thousand points are the most critical, after deciding whether to buy Retail or Resale...Me...I opted for (2) RESALE contracts, first one was 2 years ago, 238k at Kingsgate in Williamsburg, bought on ebay for 596. MF are 1196/Yr. Last year I got 7 nights Ocean Walk in Daytona, 6 nights Cypress Palms in Orlando, 6 nights at Kingsgate and 4 nights in Nashville with a few points left (10k). Last year I bought an additional 126k on ebay for 256.00, again at Kingsgate, the MF for those are 768/yr. They are a little more per 1000 points...apparently, some resorts have DIFFERENT MF for points. Both my resales, ALL other costs were paid by the SELLER. I'm very happy with my purchases, my costs, and the amount of vacations I got for them. Last year I averaged 47 dollars a night for my stays. All were 1 BR DLX except 1 was a 1BR. Just giving you a snapshot of my Wyndham costs. Enjoy! Bob
