Hello Hyatt Owners,

I am a new Hyatt owner of Week 18 (April 19-26, 2026) at Windward Pt. I closed on the property this past September. The previous owner let Hyatt know the deeded week will be used in 2026. I have read the sticky posts regarding how Hyatt system works but I am still a bit confused.

My question is what options do I have at this point to cancel the reservation and use my points elsewhere? Upon purchase, my plan was to break up my 2200 points into multiple smaller stays. So here are a few questions that I have (thank you in advance for your help):

If I cancel my current reservation do the points become CUP points?
When do CUP points become LCUP points?
LCUP points can only be used for reservations less than 60 days out?
When would these LCUP points expire?
Do your points show up in your account the day after your deeded week concludes?

I am looking to book a week in Puerto Rico in May '26 for just 870 points (leaving 1330 pts balance)
Then use 1330pts for a few 3-4 night stays at Coconut Cove and Key West through the rest of 2026. Do these need to be booked before April 19, 2026? Will they be LCUP points?

Welcome to HVC, also known as HRC (Hyatt Residence Club).

In Summary, 12 months prior to the week you own starts your exclusive time period to reserve what you own, called HRPP. This period lasts until exactly six months prior to the check-in day of the week you own. During this time, you can opt out of making a reservation for the week you own and convert your week to CUP points. You can now book any available week with your CUP points if you have enough points. The week you own is also now inventory for anyone to book with their CUP points. If you don't make a reservation for your home resort, your week will automatically convert to CUP points six months prior to the check-in date of the week you own.

Your CUP points retain that designation until the check-in day of the week you own. You can reserve any available week while your points are CUP points. On the first day of your owned week, your unused points turn into LCUP points. LCUP points are limited in use, and can only be used to book available inventory with a check-in date within 60 days from when you are making the reservation. LCUP points expire six months after the check-in day of the week you own.

If you make a reservation and cancel it, your points are returned to the type of points they would be if you would have remained in your account. (Based on the how long before the check-in day of the week you own.)

As you mentioned you own Windward Point Week 18 (April 19-26, 2026), here are the answers to your Qs:

If I cancel my current reservation do the points become CUP points? Yes, if you cancel your "owned" week reservation for 4/19 to 4/26/2026, you will have 2200 CUP points in your account.

When do CUP points become LCUP points? On 4/19/2026, your 2,200 CUP points will become 2,200 LCUP points, and you will at the same time be issued 2,200 new HRPP points, which you can use to book your owned week 18 in 4/2027. You will have 6 months (until about mid-10/2026) to reserved your owned week/unit. If you do not do so within this time, you will lose the option/preference to book your owned unit for 4/2027, and your 2,200 HRPP points will become 2,200 CUP points.

LCUP points can only be used for reservations less than 60 days out? Correct. Good for reservations 60 days out (or less)

When would these LCUP points expire? 6 months after Week 18, so about mid-10/2026.

Do your points show up in your account the day after your deeded week concludes? I believe your new points show up in your account on the first day of your week 18. So on 4/19/2026, yous should have 2,200 new points deposited in your account as HRPP/CUP points until 4/2027.

Thank you ArizonaSun4Fun and SteveinHNL for your responses. This information is very helpful. It sounds as though I still have enough time to make reservations.
I think my confusion was using calendar year vs. a year from the week I own vs. when MF are due.
