There is a public meeting scheduled for Monday evening at 5:30 HST concerning an application from Hilton to build a new 36 story hotel at Hilton Hawaiian Village. The new building would be on the location where Kobe’s Steakhouse used to be, right on Ala Moana Blvd., tucked between the two existing timeshare towers. 515 hotel rooms, an 8th floor pool, and ground level retail space are part of the proposed project. They want to begin construction in late 2024/2025 and to take 30 months to complete.

I foresee several serious problems being created by this project. First, it will massively increase car and pedestrian traffic, and street noise, right at the location where Ala Moana Blvd., curves into the start of Waikiki. Second, the already crowded beach area at HHV will have about 1000+ more people wanting to use the space. Third, it will significantly impact restaurant/dining access in the area. They are not proposing any significant new dining facilities, so they are adding 1000+ people into the already packed dining areas of HHV. Where are these people going to eat? (These are to be 100% hotel, so no in-room dining/kitchen.)

Public comment must be in by Dec. 8.

We don't do much eating at HHV but do find the pools are often crowded, sounds like this project will have its own pool but if these tower users can access the other pools and we cannot access theirs, not a fair trade.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering when this was going to begin.

Tug member Holdaer first reported Park Hotels & Resorts plan for an additional HHV tower back in 2017 (see quote below). The last update I saw after that was back in 2019 (link).

Hilton Hawaiian Village may get even bigger
Jan 9, 2017, 7:15am HST

Park Hotels & Resorts Inc., the real estate investment trust recently spun off by Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., may develop a new hotel or time-share tower at the iconic Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, which is the largest in the Hilton chain of hotels and the biggest resort in Hawaii, Pacific Business News has learned.

Park Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: PK), in a recent presentation to investors, revealed that a future project at the Hilton Hawaiian Village could involve developing a luxury hotel, time-share or residential project that would include retail at its “Ala Moana Land Parcel” located between the Grand Waikikian Tower and the Kalia Tower along Ala Moana Boulevard in Waikiki.

Found the link to the Park Hotels & Resort presentation.
It talks about the potential opportunity at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on page 43 - http://otp.investis.com/clients/us/...gId=11726719&Cik=0001617406&Type=PDF&hasPdf=1

Not sure what the rules are for timeshare owners using the hotel pools. The new pool will be on the 8th floor.
