Hilton Hawaiian Village - Lagoon Tower
Marriott Maui Ocean Club
There is a public meeting scheduled for Monday evening at 5:30 HST concerning an application from Hilton to build a new 36 story hotel at Hilton Hawaiian Village. The new building would be on the location where Kobe’s Steakhouse used to be, right on Ala Moana Blvd., tucked between the two existing timeshare towers. 515 hotel rooms, an 8th floor pool, and ground level retail space are part of the proposed project. They want to begin construction in late 2024/2025 and to take 30 months to complete.
I foresee several serious problems being created by this project. First, it will massively increase car and pedestrian traffic, and street noise, right at the location where Ala Moana Blvd., curves into the start of Waikiki. Second, the already crowded beach area at HHV will have about 1000+ more people wanting to use the space. Third, it will significantly impact restaurant/dining access in the area. They are not proposing any significant new dining facilities, so they are adding 1000+ people into the already packed dining areas of HHV. Where are these people going to eat? (These are to be 100% hotel, so no in-room dining/kitchen.)
Public comment must be in by Dec. 8.
