Thanks for the information @Eric B. For once I was finally able to take advantage of one of these discounts. I rebooked via CS my Seaworld reservation (for my son) and was able to save 2000 pts. I probably also got an email from HGV on this but I am getting about the same number of daily HGV emails as daily Viking mailing brochures.

I love the way HGVC handles discounts like this on the website! Just click on the existing reservation. With Wyndham, I would have had to cancel the existing reservation and hope against hope that I would be able to re-book it.

It's a bit more complicated for instances where there's only one unit of a particular type (e.g., the differently noted penthouse units at the Quin). Pretty simple to cancel and rebook them if you do it at a time no one else is likely to be looking for them and they don't seem to get sucked up by OGS. It does take a few minutes for cancelled reservations to reappear in inventory but I was able to save a lot on the two story 1 BR PH!

Always curious how does HGVC balance out the points value discount.

Isn't that everyone all get the points but can actually book more

IMHO, they are using the discounts to adjust to perceived/experienced demand taking into account the amount of developer-owned inventory at particular resorts. For the NYC resorts, I've noted that they typically provide discounts for the more recently added resorts (Quin & Central) and it seems to be lower-demand times when they aren't having as much luck renting them out as they'd like. That's likely why you don't see as many discounts being offered for W57 - there isn't much developer-owned inventory, which is the source of the points needed/vacancy to support the discounts.

As @Eric B points out, it's less simple if there is not currently availablity for the specific unit and full time period that you already have reserved. I have an existing reservation for an oceanfront 1-bdrm plus at Ocean 22 for 15 nights in mid-November. If I try to change my existing reservation, it displays my current reservation points and the reduced points with the discount, which would save me about 4K points.

But when I click on it to try to make the change, it says "no availability". If I look at the current availability chart, there are gaps in that 2-week period with no availability. So I would have to cancel my current reservation and hope I can rebook it. I'm not sure I am prepared to do that.

This looks like the same discount that had been reported earlier since it starts as early as Sept. 12. We just got back from a stay at Elara this past weekend (to visit The Sphere ) and took advantage of this.

Just reserved a 3 night stay in October at The Boulevard in a 1BR high floor for about 1,200 points. Saved 60% in points. Thanks again for the heads-up.

Fairly common during this time of year for some off-season locations.
