New beaches disappearing fast at Cancun

We arrived at the Royal Islander yesterday and it was sunny and cool. Today was rainy, cool and very windy. Cancun's beautiful new beach is disappearing fast due to the wind, waves and rip currents (red flags eveywhere). In a couple areas the dropoff from where the beach was washed away was over 6 feet high. And that dropoff was straight down. We haven't been here in two years and the beautiful beach that greeted us yesterday is slipping away. The beaches at RI and RC seem to be fairing better than RM. We haven't been to RS yet, so can't say. :bawl:

Wow, thanks for the update, I have not been back since Nov 2009 so I have not seen the rebuilt beach, but I surely was hoping it would last! Will you please let us know what it looks like at the Sands when you go there?

Two weeks ago the drop was about 2 feet at the RC, so they must have taken a beating recently. Last year at this time there was very little beach at all courtesy of Hurricane Ida and other storms.

At the Sands right now and the beach is excellent. Some dropoff at the southern end and a nice slope at the northern end. Some beach erosion is normal after sand replacement. Only time will tell if it lasts but I will enjoy it for now. If another hurricane hits, it might be gone again. I don't think it is "disappearing fast" here.

we stayed for past few days at the Sun Palace and walked towards the Royals.

The sand was very spongy and there was a LOT of erosion. Some places had huge drop offs of sand. The beach was beautiful where we were but walking was difficult due to the erosion along the way.

As we watched, we could see the waves carrying the sand back into the water.

KCI, Since RM is not too good; I assume OMNI is about the same?? Just my luck... Is there any talk about replenishing Again? I'll be there in March. Hopefully there's a beach... Thx

Glad to here the erosion isn't bad at the Sands. Last night was another bad night for the beach. The dropoff at RI was up to about 4 or 5 feet this morning and they had to dig ramps from the higher beach to the bottom for the people to get to the water. A few yellow flags went up today to let people swim and the wind is less so maybe it will stablize. Some people are finding great shells as the sand washes away.
