Over the past couple of years I was pleased to see that Marriott purchased Sheraton/Vistana, Westin, Hyatt, and now Welk resorts. These are nice resort acquisitions and as a Wyndham owner I had benefited from acquisitions made by them (ability to trade into Worldmark and soon Shell VC). However, I have yet to see anything IN WRITING from Marriott about our ability to trade into these other systems....even though I've seen information posted by those other systems about owners of those other systems being offered the ability to trade into Marriott inventory (of course with some kind of point conversion buy in). WHAT ARE YOU BEING TOLD ABOUT OUR ABILITY TO ACCESS THOSE OTHER SYSTEMS AT SOME POINT? WOULD IT BE BENEFICIAL TO BUY INTO THE OTHER SYSTEM SUCH AS HYATT ON THE SECONDARY MARKET? WOULD IT LEVERAGE ME TO UTILIZE THE CROSS BOOKING IN BOTH SYSTEMS IF I DO THIS BEFORE THE TRANSFER IS COMPLETE? I want to use all of these systems and am going to be very angry if they have access to our system while we do not have access to theirs. (Currently that is happening with Wyndham and Shell).

During earnings call MVCI has indicated at some point a common point exchange for Vistana. Hyatt and Welk would be maintained separately,

We pretty much know already based on past interviews and announcements by Marriott Vacations Worldwide that there will be no cross booking with Hyatt. So if you own Hyatt you will be able to continue to book Hyatt. Now they did recently announce that they plan to acquire Welk and rebrand those properties to Hyatt Residence Club. As for Marriott, Vistana, Sheraton and Westin, there is a lot of speculation but no firm details. THough we know something will happen at some point, just not when. There have also been plenty of past speculation threads; here is the lates with quite a bit of discussion.

Well I'm disappointed that there will be no cross booking with Hyatt/Welk.....it seems the best of both worlds to acquire and expand the options for everyone in both systems. Thanks for your insight.

The problem with Hyatt is the licencing and brand. That brand is "the odd ball out". It isn't owned by Marriott International and I am sure Hyatt Hotels doesn't want any type of cross promotion between Marriott/Sheraton/Westin which is owned by Marriott International and Hyatt. Hyatt and Marriott are competing brands. There have been speculation that Marriott Vacations Worldwide could even spinoff or sell Hyatt Residence Club once they complete the merger between Hyatt and Welk, but it is just speculation.

I agree with Dioxide45 about the issue with Hyatt.

My guess is MVC won't announce the MVC / Vistana integration until travel is back to mostly normal. I think one of the goals of the merger was to create ways to both cross-sell and upsell existing customers. I think they would want to create buzz and excitement about the integration announcement, and use it to drive tour / presentation traffic at the resorts. That easier to do when most of the resorts are back to normal occupancy.

As noted, there will likely be a crossover at some points between MVC and Sheraton/Vistana/Westin but not Hyatt/Welk. How that looks and who/how it can be accessed is unknown. I would not buy hoping to get additional benefits later, there are just too many unknowns to make that a reasonable choice. Only buy if it makes sense without any additional options and then if something happens favorable, it'll just be gravy.
