How many of you have an allergy cover for your mattress? Does it encase the mattress or just cover it like a sheet? Is it hot? Do you find that it "works"? (If you can tell!) Is there a brand you would recommend?

Thanks for your help!!

Sharon

Sharon, I'm interested in the advice your asking for as well. We just took the mattress cover off our son's bed. It totally encased the mattress with a zipper closure. It seemed to be made of a breathable material that could be machine washed. Bought it at Mervyns or Target. It must have been working because he's been sniffling in bed at night ever since! I'm getting another one tomorrow.

Yes we did-but we didn't like the 'feel'. Putting a topper over it seems like it would defeat the purpose altho I guess you could change toppers cheaper than mattresses. Now that we have a Tempurpedic however, it would make no sense to cover it. (We didn't notice an improvement with the cover in our case anyway.)

I bought one at Walmart it totally encases the mattress and zips at one end. It is washable and is also waterproof. We have a feather bed and pillows and I have severe allergies so I have the covers on both the bed and pillows. It made a major difference for me sleeping at night. I no longer wake up gasping for air or coughing and sneezing. I also have one of those air cleaner machines in our bedroom which also helps both hubby and me sleep better.

I got the idea from TUGGERS who were discussing on the board last year about the disposable pillow & mattress covers to take on vacation with you to use in the condo because of the high incidences of bed bugs and/or germs that previous guest may have left behind. So I have a set that I just leave in one of the suitcases that way I don't forget to take it with me when we travel.

I have an "anti-dust mite" cover I bought years ago, don't remember the brand. I recently saw a new allergist and he gave me a pamphlet with some names, which I will look up as soon as I sort through the giant paperwork pile.
