I would like to send my brother and his wife a gift. He just sent me a computer game that is really challeging me. I was surprised to recieve it because we have not exchanged in a long time. He thought I would really enjoy it.

In retirement, he is a college professor (PHD ). His wife is a dietician. They live on a ranch and are very active, intelligent, and good sense of humor. Also, Vegan.

Any idea of a different or quirky gift?

thanks

An iPod might have limited utility on a ranch. (I do not iPod)
How about a horse. No?

Three ideas:
1. If you know what movie-genre he likes, a DVD or blu-ray movie.
Example: If they're into comedies -- Airplane I+II

B. If you know of a band he likes, a music CD or concert-video DVD.

iii. If he has a favorite author or book-genre, an audio book.

Last Resort: A gift-card from Amazon.com.

No Radio Waves, No Problem.

An iPod might have limited access on a ranch.
iPod should be OK out there on the range.

iPod tunes & podcasts, etc., are digitally recorded onto the iPod via computer, not received over the air like radio & TV.

They probably have an iPod (or 2 or 3) already.

How about a couple of restaurant.com coupons for restaurants in their area? Do a google search for "restaurant.com discount codes". Entering the code can save 50-80% off the cost you pay. So, a $25. off coupon which regularly costs $10 will cost you as low as $2.00 . You can print it out and mail it to them, or send it to them via an Email link.

Yes, he does have an ipod. He is very techy too. He is a dog lover and has rescued several abandoned dogs over the years.

thanks for your ideas and keep them coming!

It is clear that your brother likes computer games. Maybe his wife knows a game that he would enjoy. Ask her. If he plays games on a console like an XBOX, Playstation, Wii, or Nintendo DS, get him a game for one of those consoles.

Roku?

How about a Roku Box and maybe an Introductory Netflix Acct. www.roku.com
They could watch streaming movies or if they already have a Wii. Just the intro acct. Wii can stream from Netflix. Of course they would need wireless in their home or direct connect

How about a gift certificate to the local dog groomer? A little pampering for his furry friends. :)

Cheers!

A large calendar featuring photos of his favorite dog breed - there are lots of different choices of breeds. I always got one of those when we had a bichon, and the photos made me smile every month. You could accompany it with a contribution in his honor to the local dog shelter in his area.

Is he a wine drinker? Perhaps you could find a program that would deliver him an interesting bottle of wine each month. We just signed up for the Wall Street Journal wine program; a great introductory offer of 12 bottles, and we really like the option to purchase additional ones when we wish. It's interesting wines we wouldn't always try on our own or find at the local stores where we usually shop.

We do rescue too and I am touched when people give me weimaraner related gifts, especially if it's something like a weim rescue calendar or t-shirt. A lot of rescues (including Humane Society, APSCA and local groups) sell gifts as fundraisers.

I know, I know... <raises hand>

How about a digital photo frame... a decent size, like 10-12".
Almost everyone has a multitude of digital photos they'd like to display.
I just supplemented ours with a few SD cards and a multi-card holder.

I like these ideas as a dog lover. Also, have you looked at the petedge site? The company is set up to sell to smaller pet stores to keep them competitive with some of the big chains, but they sell to individuals too. They may have something out of the ordinary that would be appreciated by your brother.

They sound like they may be the type of people who like bird watching. Maybe something from Audubon - a book, a feeder, some binoculars?

I love sitting on my porch in the summer and watching the birds. I feed them in the winter too, but don't spend as much time watching them as I do in the summer.
