Is there a good resource for basic help understanding how to use II? We had some expiring points and traded them for a High Demand, 1 BDRM using 2750 points. We have never done anything in II and are trying to figure out how to use that system.

In my account, I now see the deposit of a "MVC Destinations High Season" then "DHS" then "Unit: UUU1 (1 Bedroom)" then "Week 52"

I also have a message saying "Deposit Now." When I follow that link, I have 3 separate items Usage: 2021 (Float), Usage: 2022 (Float); Usage: 2023 (Float). In each of them, the options appear to be "Deposit Unit," "Vacation Exchange" and "Place Request."

As indicated, I am at a loss. Maybe I will do some YouTube searches. Just thought I'd ask here for starters. Any help appreciated.

Place Request allows you to start an ongoing search.

Vacation exchange allows you to search for currently available inventory you can exchange into.

To keep it simple, go to Exchange -> My Units. Find your high season deposit you got, and, select "Vacation Exchange" within that box of your high season and go from there to look for currently available exchanges. As kwalk03 mentioned, Place request means you didn't find what you wanted and you want them to continue to search for it. Ignore the other stuff as far as deposit now, future years, etc.

Another basic question. I have two bonus certificates. Do I just redeem them? Does that commit me to anything? They give the time frame for usage but they don’t give any other information. How do I know what they are good for?

My mistake. The bonus certificates give the unit (3 bedroom, full kitchen).

Bonus certificates (accommodation certificates/AC) cost about $300 to redeem. Start the check out and you’ll see the cost before you pay. If you use them for an all inclusive resort or there are any resort fees you do have to pay them to the resort..
Inventory is limited to what shows up- you won’t necessarily get a 3br, depends on what’s available. II uses these to use up excess inventory.
They are non refundable but I believe you can cancel within 24 hours.
You an also buy a guest certificate for friends or family to use what you have booked.

I like the bonus weeks. Some have difficulty finding value as inventory is very unpredictable. Ability to travel with flexibility-and being close to locations is helpful. We use them several times a year in Williamsburg. We've also used them in Orlando, Cancun, Cabo, Aruba-with Aruba being a lucky find.

You have no committment-like to a presentation or anything. They will ask of course. But, you don't have to do anything except check in and have fun.

Yeah, we use them in Williamsburg every fall also. I use them in Orlando and Branson commonly too. We also love them, but we're retired so flexibility is built in!

I need to learn more about II. I’m glad to hear some people are happy with their experience. I’ve avoided II because of the 24-hour cancellation policy. Making plane and car rental reservations in that timeframe is stressful. But I understand that real gems can pop up. Is $300 the exchange fee across the board? (The fee must be on the web page, but so far I don’t see it.)

I found this YouTuber to be helpful in understanding how to maximize II trades.

You can cancel an exchange later than 24 hours, but you lose your exchange fee and need to pay a new one if you exchange again.
You can purchase eplus within 5 days of confirming an exchange. This gives you 3 manual (not requests) retrades within one year of your check in date to find a trip.
If your week is enrolled in the DC their is no exchange fee MVC to Marriott brands so if that case you can just use manual retrade to change your exchange as needed- you don’t lose your fee because you didn’t pay one.

I personally do a lot of research before I chose a destination- I have a look at weather, flights and research resorts on trip advisor and then I place a request (ongoing search) as far in advance as possible (12-13 months is ideal for MVC- but I place it anyway even if it’s a lot sooner). Gems do pop up, but requesting gives your priority if you are a MVC owner trading to an MVC property.

There is an active community on II with lots of expertise in using that site, and there are instructional videos on how to use the site in the general discussion section of the community, plus a faq and buyers guide (legal) at the bottom of every page.

Pricing is in the faq, or you can just start an exchange to see the price and close out if you don’t like it. Read the spe I’ll advisements too- if the resort is all inclusive or charges other fees you have to pay them to the redort.
We’ve had great luck exchanging on II for nearly 15 years- never didn’t get an exchange that worked for me or lost a week I couldn't use.

Folks, thanks so much for the info and advice. I feel a bit more confident now. BTW, I look around these days and see so many people—probably stressed out from COVID—acting mean and nasty to each other. It’s good to be reminded that people often do go out of their way to help each other. Once again, thanks!

I’m bummed. I need to cancel my reservation at Marriott Pulse San Diego. I thought I could deposit them into II but those points will expire on September 30, 2021. Putting them in a holding account only adds 60 day then they expire. Do I have any other options?

You can have MVC convert the points into a week and deposit it into II to exchange to non MVC resorts, good for 2 years, you can do it last minute with no penalty.

edit- I an not 100% sure this works for holding account points- call or chat with MVC check.

If they expire 9/30/21, having them become holding account points does not extend them 60 days. They still would expire 9/30/21.

According to a MVCI rep I called and talked to previously, holding account points cannot be used for II deposits.

I recall from the marketing info when they announced it, holding account points can be used for the car rental certificates. Not the best value, but it’s a use that extends the usefulness past expiration.

I was told that Holding Account points needed to be used within 60 days of the arrival date of a new reservation, not by the expiration date of the use year (September 30, 2021). Where on the website is the Holding Account defined?

The correct answer is that its both of those requirements. Here is the definition from the Exchange Procedures linked below. The color coding and bolding is mine to guide you to the applicable wording.

Holding Account means an account established for purposes of depositing Exchange Points that are restored to a Program Member after the cancellation or modification of a confirmed reservation. Exchange Points deposited in a Program Member’s Holding Account shall be available for further use during that same Use Year, but the further use of such restored Exchange Points shall only be confirmed by Exchange Company for Use Periods beginning no more than sixty (60) days after the date of the request, subject to availability, or other Special Benefits as may be made available for such purposes by Exchange Company from time to time. Exchange Points deposited in a Holding Account may not be transferred to other Program Members, banked for future use, or used for wait list requests. Program Members may not be able to use Exchange Points deposited in a Holding Account for certain Special Benefits, as determined by Exchange Company in its sole discretion. Borrowed Exchange Points deposited into a Program Member’s Holding Account expire at the end of the Use Year from which such Exchange Points were borrowed.

I tried again, but an agent confirmed what you just wrote. Also, thanks for uploading the whole PDF file.
