I have 3500 bonus points that are due to expire the middle of this month. My understating is that I can obligate those points for 9 months past expiration but it must be done before expiration. Am I only allowed to use bonus points with RCI? Or can they be used in another way? Also I spoke with a representative (I was considering booking Aruba for next year) and after all charges were known I declined reserving at the time to reevaluate my options. The representative said I could pay $99 and deposit these points into RCI for another year. Is that right? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide. :D

You can convert them to Hilton Honors. At 25:1 that will give you 87,500 HHonors points which can pay for approximately one night at a nice Hilton and two at a Hampton. Not great value but much better than letting them expire. I don't think there is a fee for doing this either.

How about reading the rules and you tell us?

From Pages 7-8, [Bonus Points] may be used:
• to make non-changeable HGVC reservations during the Club Reservation window.
• for ClubPartner Perks (such as cruises and other travel partner options).
• for RCI Exchange reservations.
• for hotel reservations in Hilton's portfolio of brands (ratio = 1:20).
• as a credit toward maintenance fees owed.
• for conversion into HHonors points (ratio = 1:25)

---------------------
I found nothing in the rules about depositing Bonus Points to the RCI Program.
But it makes sense as you can book up to two calendar years out.

Converting to HHonors: Not a good use of points (87.5K = 2-3N at a hotel).
But it gives you the most flexibility as there is no deadline for use.

Using Bonus Points at HGVC Resorts

Definitely use your bonus points before they expire. Worst case scenario use it towards your annual maintenance fee.

Here's what I was told in 2015 when I emailed HGVC about the use of Bonus Points for HGVC resort reservations.

You do not have to travel before your bonus points expire, just be sure to book something with them before they expire. During the Club Reservation window, you can book up to 9 months in advance with them with the exception of West 57th Street which is 44 days from check out and Hokulani which is 6 months from check out.

If you have to cancel your reservation before they expire, your bonus points will be returned. If you make a last minute cancellation after your bonus points have expired, you will have the opportunity to extend them for 3 months for a $99 fee. You will have up to 6 months past the expiration date of your bonus points to extend them and the 3 months would start from whatever day you pay the $99.

If you don't have concrete plans for using them for a timeshare stay, use them to convert to the hotel points, towards your MFs or the gift cards. It would be a bummer to pay $99. to put them in RCI and then not take an RCI vacation because you didn't find something you could use in that timeframe.
