How is the trading power of an NCV gold? I'm looking at one now that is on eBay, and debating it, versus a different Marriott property, purely for trading purposes?

I assume it's superior to the Palm Desert properties (Gold), is that a correct assumption?

Please advise and thanks!

I actually might prefer the Gold at one of the Palm Desert Resorts as the season includes some early summer weeks which are probably decent traders.

As has been well documented on this board, the NCV Platinum season is SO large that it has left only low demand weeks for Gold season. I think the resort is nicer and would stay there over the Palm Desert resorts but Gold season doesn't cover any time period of even remotely high demand.

I also think if airfare continues to rise (likely), weeks during the tradtional school holiday's at driveable destinations will increase in value as families have to forgoe big budget flights.

Hey moderators!

Could you start this as a new thread (from the entry from 8/3/08)?- otherwise the poster who asked the question will prob not get a lot of answers since it looks like a continuation of an old thread.

Also benjaminb13- what happened with your week? Did you manage to rent it out? Please give us an update.

Gregt- I don't know much about NCV but good luck with your purchase. Have you checked the II listings for the trade power of Gold at NCV? That may be helpful to you. From what everyone says NCV is a great resort and very popular. Search the posts and there is a lot of info about it in various threads.

The II travel index shows that summer weeks at NCV have great trading power.

BUT the gold, spring weeks at NCV have a higher ( sometimes much higher) travel index than the fall (Platinum) weeks at NCV. IMHO, if you pick a high demand gold week it should trade very well and better than almost all the fall platinum weeks.

I agree with Bill. A NCV Gold can be managed for excellent trading clout.
However, as you are comparing it with desert exchange clout, there are two additional items to consider.
- A Gold NCV will price comparably to a Desert Springs Platinum (Red).
Most DSV prime season weeks are a great exchange chip

- Desert Springs has a lockout, NCV does not. While it does not offer advantages as a 2 bedroom deposit, it does offer flexibility and value when it can be used.

We have a gold week at NCV and try to book the week before or after Easter or the early June week. We are out of school by then.

I have 2 NCV gold weeks and have traded into Maui Ocean Club and Kauai Beach Club with them, although I haven't tried that recently. Also, I usually reserve the weeks before and after Easter and have no trouble renting them for more than MF+taxes. Last year SFX was happy to have those weeks, and gave two bonus weeks for each.

That last gold week (22) is usually the first week of June, and could be attractive to families with college students, as not many other schools get out before then and the theme parks aren't crowded yet. The weather's not the greatest then, though; it tends to be gray. Fine for golf, though.

Remember that all units are 2BR, so they definitely appeal to families.
