Nationwide [Resorts and Travel]: scam?

I was contacted by Evelyn (689) 205-8814, and then by Jason (407) 564-6352 from Nationwide Resorts and Travel, (scam link removed) regarding selling my weeks for about $2500/week. I agreed to do it and then was transferred to the manager to confirm details for the "contract". Something felt off so I then said no, I changed my mind and hung up.
I'm just writing to let people know, be careful. They knew my personal information, email and phone and knew that I owned Hilton. When I asked, "How do I know you're not scamming me?", Jason walked me through the website and how the company makes money. It sounds very real. Maybe it is real. But I wasn't going to go down that road. If it's not a scam, please let me know.

You did the right thing, it's a scam.

Corporations don't rent timeshares for conventions, they use hotels and convention centers.

Don't even answer the phone unless you recognize the phone number. 90% of the calls made in 2025 are from people trying to scam you. Of the last 30 calls in my phone history, only 1 was legit.

I only have an Android cell phone, it has a do not disturb feature, I leave it on all the time. My phone only rings for entries that are already in my address book, it works great to stop scam calls.

You did the right thing. Well known scam. They know your info cause deeds are public record. I am sure they were going to charge you upfront to rent your weeks. If someone cold call you about a timeshare, you can be confident they are trying to just get your money. Don't look back and block there calls.

Doing more research

Personal information can be found on the internet very easily.

Marketing scammers will sell your personal information to other scammers for a price. IMHO

This is exactly what I also do on my iPhone. It is a shame, but every once in a while, I get a real call (not in my phone contact list) that goes to voice mail. If I know that a call will come in, I temporarily suspect that feature. Overall, it works great.

I too do this on my iPhone. “Real” callers will leave a voice mail, spammers won’t. Also, AT&T puts a little check mark beside the number if the call is really coming from the number listed, and it’s (not) surprising that many unknown numbers aren’t verified.

It’s funny, lately I’ve been getting a lot of calls from various numbers with the tag RCI where the person’s or company’s name would be. The area code is almost never from anyplace that I know RCI has offices. It wasn’t until just now that I realized those calls are probably from spammers wanting me to rent my TS weeks with them! They never leave a message, of course, so I can’t confirm that suspicion.
