Name Change on Title

My current ownership at NCV is under my maiden name. Naturally II membership and every reservation I have made since my purchase has been under my maiden name and has not been an issue (for example with check-in/out, MR points, etc). I remember at one point I asked Marriott if I should change my name on the title but the answer I got was, no need unless I want to pay some lawyer to change it (sounded like a hassle at the time) and in California my husband will have his 50% share no matter what, so not obligated to change it.

Here is my question, I am considering buying another week via resale and the new purchase will not be under my maiden name, obviously, so should I go ahead and pursue name change on NCV title now? If so, what is the best way to go about doing this? I would imagine I won't be able to add the new purchase into my existing II membership since the names will be different.

I still would not bother changing the name on the title. Instead I would change the name on the II membership. This way any additional properties can be added to the membership.

Might not be the best advice because if the name on the deed and the name on the account don't match, they won't deposit it.

I think there are two real options :

1. Have new deed put in your maiden name and deposit into existing II account
2. Change name in existing deed and II account to married name and new deed is put in married name.

The second option is probably the best - in the future if you need to change to married name, you would have to change all three. Long term option 2 will be the least costly for you.

You're right. I tried to update my name with II only but they won't do it unless the title name is changed too. So how do I change it? Anyone has experience with name change?

I have two names on my rci account

different names - two people sharing one account

you can have two names - share account

This is II, not RCI, and I believe II is different. I can only confirm my single case but when I opened my II account I used both my wife and my names, which matched the deed. My account reads MR AND MRS [My Full Name]. It does not list both names.

I think so too. Interval said I can change the name on my website profile so that any mail sent to me would have my changed name. But all the reservations are done with my maiden name. I got in the habit of carrying a copy of my marriage license just in case it becomes an issue at check-in, but so far no one made an issue of it. For the same reason, I cannot add my MR number to future reservations until the time of check-in.

It looks like I have to submit to the county registerer's office what is called a Quitclaim deed? I'm not familiar with legal documents at all... maybe I do need to find a legal counsel?

Title/closing company can do it for you a lot cheaper than hiring a lawyer.

Two people can share an II account but both their names have to be on deeds for it to be deposited. If one person is on and the other is not, they will not deposit it into that account. Account and deed names must be EXACTLY the same or they will not do it.

I recently had a closing company mistakenly put the deed as "Gord" instead of "Gordon" and Starwood would not allow me to have the same Starwood account as my other deed and II would not allow me to deposit into my account. I went back to the closing company to record it properly like I listed it in the documents I sent them originally.

Of course you should change your name on the deed. It is a real no brainer.

I'm assuming you are referring to Newport Coast property.

Use this form: http://www.fidelitytitle.net/Uploads/38/22/13822/Gallery/quitclaim.pdf Get the info for property description from your existing deed.

Transfer Tax: -0-

box after "acknowledged": OLD NAME EXACTLY AS ON EXISTING DEED.

box after to: "NEW NAME formerly known as OLD NAME (transfer is to self to reflect name change after marriage)"

Fill out info, go to Notary (UPS store etc) and then sign in front of them. You will fill out preliminary change of ownership form indicating reason is for new name, no taxes paid etc.

Take to recorder in OC: http://ocrecorder.com/services/documents

DONE. Send new deed to Marriott and II to change names on accounts.

In my experience this is not the case, but perhaps this is because they put MR and MRS. I have 12 weeks on my II account. Mine and my wife's names are only on two of the deeds. I am on 10 of the deeds by myself. There has never been an issue adding a week or making a deposit.

You may not need to do anything

I bought a TS when I was single under my name "Jones". I married and now am "Smith". That deed was never changed, it is linked to my MR account, to which I did change my name after marrying.

Since then my DH and I have purchased several TSs, and the Interval account was update to list us as joint, with my new married name and it shows all the TSs which we hold jointly and the one that is mine alone.

Interestingly, when we joined the DC club, they maintain a separation online... We have two name tabs for ownership. My tabs shows all the resorts, DH's tabs only shows the joint ownership resorts. But since we have one log-in, it doesn't matter. I just need to remember to access the one resort I need to use my tab.

So, I am not sure you need to do anything, but that is your decision. A lawyer once told me that my previous name is an alias, and that it is perfectly legal to have an alias.

It sounds like they might not be applying their rules universally and being picky on one end but not the other. I guess for the OP is if she is actually running into problems, otherwise let sleeping dogs be ???

Thank you for this~! This is the kind of info I was hoping to see. :cheer:

I wasn't quite sure about this either. That's why I posted here to get your expert opinions. :D

I guess for now, I will not do anything (since I haven't even bought any additional weeks yet. hehe) and cross that bridge when I come to it. Again, I appreciate all your input.
