Each online routing map gives us a different route to take. We will be traveling from Oceanwatch Villas (8500 Costa Verde Dr, Myrtle Beach, SC) to Grande Ocean (51 South Forest Beach Dr, Hilton Head, SC). Does anyone have any suggestions for the best route to take?

Thanks!

Also, does anyone know if we still check-in at the Welcome Center or at the actual resort at Grande Ocean. We own at the Manor Club and are exchanging into Grande Ocean using an AC (bonus week).

You are going to love walking on the beach and it will not be as hot, humid and hazy as in Williamsburg in the summertimes.

Last month we went from OceanWatch to Sea Pines on HHI. This was our route: From OceanWatch N on 17 to 22. N on 22 to 31 W(or perhaps S). 31 to 501. Take 501 to 378 in Conway. 378 over to I95. S on 95 to exit 8 (278). Take 278 onto HHI and then take the Cross Island Expressway to Sea Pines circle. To get to Grande Ocean go thru the circle and down to Coligny circle and go right. Grande Ocean will be 1/2 mile down on your left. My wife's new GPS had us going a different way (down towards Charleston), but I chose the above route as I had done it before.
Have a great time. We love OceanWatch and HHI.

I got a portable NAV system for $169 at Walmart....now I rarely ask for directions...I LOVE it! You may want to check one out if you find yourself driving on a lot of your vacations.

We drove from Myrtle Beach to HH last year. The most direct route, but not the fastest is straight down hwy 17. It goes thru some very remote but scenic areas.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

So let me see if I've got this right:

17 is scenic and less miles, but longer time.
501 to 378 to 95 is more miles, but shorter time.

Anyone know if 17 is stop and go with signals the entire way? Also, is there any destination along the way that is worth sightseeing?

17 will take you straight through Charleston if you do not take the alternate route. If you have never been, it's a must stop. I would just go to Google and click "get directions..." put both addresses in and click and drag the route to include Charleston. The route they give is going back out to 95 and taking it to Hilton Head... Not a very fun ride IMHO!!! The ride down 17 IS a shorter route milage wise but there are lights through certain areas. While you may have the lights, you will get to pass through some great scenery and makes the trip a little more enjoyable. And like I said, Chuck town is a great place to visit!!! I went to The Citadel and I would walk through the streets of Charleston every chance I got!!! Have a great time!!!

If we take 95 the miles are longer ,but the trip is shorter. We like to take 17 all the way down. We can stop whenever we want ,yes there is more lights. We leave early and stay on the grounds of the resort if our rooms are not ready. You will pass several small towns. There ase parts of 17 that for many miles are no or little lights. When you hit the small towns thats where the lights are. It will be hot. We have a heat WAVE. We have broken records on the weekend. It was 101 here the other day. That is not even adding the heat index. Carry plenty of water with you. Enjoy.
