My first deposit with DEX

@rpennisi, what do you think about the availability of the inventory in DEX?
So far I have been very impressed with availability. I booked two 2 bedroom grand luxxe units in Neuvo Vallarta for this July. Last January I booked two weeks at the Buganvilias in Nuevo Vallarta using a single one week deposit (studio and a one bedroom). Last year I booked a Palm Springs week, 2 bedroom unit using my LV week. Getting DEX is why I dropped II. And DEX is free and the trades are $169. Deposits are good for 5 years.

Excellent. I am glad that it is working for you. I feel the same about DEX. I just hope that inventory availability continues.

@clipper, IMO you are getting excellent value for your deposits. For example, I am depositing a 3BR Craig non-LO with MFs at $1355.61 and only getting one tier 6 deposit. Even so, I am very impressed with the inventory available in DEX. I am getting some excellent trades to places not available to me in HGVC such as 3BR Grand Penthouse at HVC Cabo Azul, 2BR Townhouse at Embarc Panorama during ski and fall seasons, 2BR Jolee Island room at Embarc/HGVC Sandestin and 2BR LO at Embarc/HGVC Whistler during ski season.
that's really good to know. i bought a 2-bedroom there because it is still tier 6. in the closing phase right now. i'm almost thinking i need another week now since these deposits eat up the whole week. i was mainly going to use for exchanging into kanapali beach club, point at poipu, and cabo azul. There was plenty of availability for these properties on there?

the other question is how good are the cash deals and getaways on dex?
have there been many good deals to be had in the destinations xtras? I was hoping there are some decent ones since I am trying to augment the 1-week deposit I will be putting in.

If you buy a resale HVC deeded week (like Polo Towers) you get DEX free with it?

I think all the HVC former diamond properties have it and a couple HGVC affiliates. I don’t know if it is free or not as I didn’t see a charge listed. I’m excited to test it out and also that it can store points for 5 years. Some of the properties are really nice on the DEX list— if they have some good last minute deals could be a real winner

I understand it depends on the property. Some properties have opted to include DEX membership in the annual fees where some require you to sign up and purchase your own membership.

Got it. Curious if there is a list for which resorsts have free DEX. Thinking perhpas a studio at Polo Towers is a way in to test the water since so many people like DEX. Many HVC resorts like Polo Towers can also be deposited into II so it's another advantage.

Polo Towers is part of HVC, not HGVC.

Are the suites fixed weeks or floating? If fixed, seems like the CSR did a favor by bumping the studio up to a tier 4 deposit
Our Week 12 is a fixed week. I have since exchanged the studio tier 4 into a 1 bedroom at HVC Ka'anapali Beach in early December(tier 4). We still have the 1 bedroom tier 6 for future exchange. I also thought that getting the studio as a tier 4 was a favour from the CSR. He made it sound like it. That's why I reported it here.

Originally I read your post as being kind of skeptical about the motives of the CSR (like a TS salesperson) but I have found that the CSRs at Diamond/DEX (who now continue to work for Hilton) are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, unlike the ones working for other TS businesses, especially at Marriott and II. It may have been so unusual, that it explains why you were caught off guard. Some are better than others so I do stay on for the survey to give feedback.
