I have 875 MVP that need to be used by Aug 2016. I am thinking of going to Italy but not by Aug 2016. Is it a good idea to change the MVP to MRP in order to purchase the Travel Packages???

There are too many variables in your question for anyone to give you a good answer.

Only trust points can be converted to MRPs. Legacy points and trust points deposited into the exchange cannot be converted to MRPs. TPs expire in 1 year although they generally extend them for a year.

When are you going to Italy, 2017, 2018 or further out? I would not recommend buying a TP now for travel that far out. If you convert to MRPs now be aware that what you can get today might not be what you can get a year or two down the road as Marriott increases individual hotel's category.

Plan your trip before you think about points. You may want to go to places where there are no Marriott hotels. Cinque Terre and the Almalfi Coast are two examples.

Converting that many DC points to MR points will only get you 28,000 MR points. Not nearly enough for a travel package. Based on MFs, those MR points will cost you about $0.015 per points. That is pretty expensive when you can actually buy them for less direct from Marriott rewards.

If you really have no other use for the points and they would otherwise expire. I see no issue with converting them to MR points. Better than nothing I suppose. Though you can always bank them. Using DC points for MVCI based stays always seems to be the best use of points.

Of course this all may be moot if they are legacy points and not trust points.

Aren't all Legacy points on a calendar year? If these have an August end date, I'm thinking they are Trust points.

Also, swapping for MR points has to be done 9 months prior to end of your use year, I believe, so OP's deadline is coming up soon.

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
They could be bonus points (for buying or attending updates). Can those points be converted to MR points?

You are right, these must be trust points. It is possible they are PlusPoints, but perhaps not likely.

Thanks for the advise tuggers. They are trust points.
I have 800 banked points from 2014 that need to be used by 8/16.
I have 775 annual that need to be banked by 2/29/16 if I don't use.
I have 200 plus promo points that need to be used by 9/18/16
My anniversary date is 8/31. We have 3500 pts a year.

The MVC rep said I need to have a check in date by 8/31/16 for the points.

We are a family of 8 or also just 2, if just my husband and I go. Our thoughts are for us to go to Hilton Head with all or Italy with 2 sometime in the future. We just went on a large vacation to Hawaii this year so we could skip a year and save points for a large vacation in 2017. Then I think we would have to bank 775 points and use 1000 points. Am I thinking correctly?? As fairly new members I am open to any ideas. We live on the East coast and Indiana as far as airfare goes. Is putting my 1000 points into interval a good option???
