MVC Waitlist Cancellation (even before a reservation is booked) results in points being returned to a holding account?

I am on a waitlist and went to cancel the waitlist and now the agent is telling me that if I cancel the waitlist, my points go into holding account subject to the 60 day booking???

Has anyone heard of this?

I believe I have heard this before. Seems some have said that MVC will suggest you end your waitlist 61 days or further from your desired checkin date to avoid points going into a holding account.

Edited to add... I now believe this not to be the case...see my further posts below.

They are saying cancelling a waitlist itself even if more than 61 days out results in holding points.

That should not be the case. Only if you cancel a confirmed reservation within 60 days.

That is not true.

That said, in your specific case, are you cancelling your waitlist 60 days or closer to your desired waitlisted check in date?

Looking through the Trust and Exchange docs....I am not seeing anything on points from a cancelled waitlist having to go into a holding account, regardless of when the waitlist is cancelled.

I also see no mention of Holding Accounts in these posts from the FAQ section under waitlist when you sign onto the MVC site. In fact the first section tells you to make sure you cancel a waitlist before the banking deadline if so desired. Holding Account points cannot be banked, so that disproves the overall premise that all cancelled wait lists (as you posted in post #3) go into a Holding Account.

How long will I remain on the Wait List?
You can tell us how long you would like to remain on the Wait List; if you don't indicate how long you would like to remain on the Wait List, we will continue to try to match your Wait List requests until one day prior to your requested check-in date. There is no fee to be placed on the Wait List, but the number of Vacation Club Points required to confirm your vacation will be placed in a pending status while you remain on the Wait List so they can be applied to the vacation if you are confirmed. If you request to travel toward the end of your Use Year, you will want to pay attention to the banking deadline so your Vacation Club Points are not in jeopardy of expiring if you haven't received a confirmation. In that case, you may wish to look at vacation alternatives or remove yourself from the Wait List so you can bank your Vacation Club Points. If you decide to use those Vacation Club Points for a different vacation before you are confirmed, your points will be taken out of the pending status so they are available to use and your Wait List requests will be removed.

What if my Wait List request is not confirmed?
If your Wait List request is not confirmed and you have not removed yourself from the Wait List, the request(s) will be cancelled one day prior to your requested vacation and the Vacation Club Points will be returned to your account.

This FAQ also seems to say only a confirmed ressie from a waitlist cancelled inside of 61 days would get your returned points into a Holding Account...

When is the latest I can place myself on a Wait List?
You may submit a Wait List request right up until one day prior to arrival, but place requests as early as possible for the best opportunity to be confirmed. If you place a request or remain on the Wait List from 60 days or less prior to your desired arrival date and you are confirmed, your Vacation Club Points would be returned to you in a Holding Account if you cancel the reservation.

All that said, I would call them and point them to their own FAQs on their website and tell them to show you where it says your cancelled waitlist will cause your points to go into a Holding Account.

I can tell you that when I have canceled waitlists the points have always gone back normally - the most recent was earlier today. Also, whenever I have set up a waitlist the CSR both asks when I want the waitlist to end and suggested 61 days out to avoid having the points go into holding.

This is exactly what I remember and it makes sense. I agree, if it is autoconfirmed because it was waitlisted but let's say I cancel it because I no longer need it, then agree it should go back as holding points. However, in my case it is STILL on the wait list and I have NOT been confirmed.

Thanks for this. The agent was insistent that once you cancel a waitlist it goes into holding points if you cancel the waitlist before the waitlist of the expiration date.

I have too in the past but it's been a while and he said it was a new change since September? I'm like huh?? And how was this communicated? He insisted there were notifications. I needed to get off the phone due to work and was not looking to get further aggravated. Thanks for all the info. I will email MVC this weekend to get this in writing

Just hang up and make a second call. Hassle for sure but he was misinformed. I've cancelled waitlist before, no holding points.
