MVC Waikiki Only Available to Points Owners? Not week exchanges?

I saw an announcement that the new MVC Waikiki is now available for booking. So I wanted to check it out since I have a week in Maui in October. I was wondering if I could stay my week in Maui then maybe pop over to Waikiki since it is newly open and *should* have some availability.

The announcement on the MVW website says: "Owners in Abound by Marriott Vacations™ can use Club Points to reserve stays with check-ins beginning October 4, 2024."

My weeks are enrolled, but they have terrible points values, so I'd never give up my week long exchanges to do any points exchanges.

Is this how they are going to start excluding us? Make these new city properties (Waikiki, Charleston, Savannah) points exchange only?

All of the new properties are part of Abound and can only be reserved using points. Since your weeks are enrolled, you could rent points from another owner and make a reservation.

In a way it's been like this since 2010. Unless one can get in through an exchange or on cash, any resort that's only in points will only be available using points. There are no weeks owners there. This is unlike some systems with points who actually own an underlying week as I do with my Bluegreen ownership.

A few point only properties make their way to II. Just not that much. These properties are the carrot on the stick to entice you to buy points.

You can always rent points to make a reservation.

Great suggestion @mjm1 and @dioxide45

Figure out the days you wish to go, find the number of points required, and rent just that quantity from another Marriott owner.
