We just completed a week at Newport Coast Villas and did a week at the original Maui Ocean Club in December. I have to say they both had the most comfortable sofa sleepers I've ever seen in a hotel or timeshare. Does MVC have these type of sofa sleepers in all of their units now? I've always laughed off the occupancy guides as completely unworkable since I wouldn't put anybody other than a single child on a traditional sofa sleeper for more than a night, but I would have no problem sleeping on one of these newer ones myself.

I think they started installing them on their more recent refurbs, perhaps in the last five to six years. Over time all the properties should have them.

At Grande Ocean in Hilton Head they must be the same, because GO underwent refurbishment of units over the past year or two,
and those were definitely added. We just finished up another few weeks at GO and everybody (kids on occasion, wife's girlfriends on other occasions) remarked that the sofa bed was the best they've ever experienced. So must be a resort-wide trend. Good for Marriott.

+1 there was one in our room at Ko Olina. (Also at HGVC W57 in NYC)

We go annually to Ko Olina and Waiohai, and my kids can vouch that the sleepers at both are NOT comfortable, and have not changed in 8 years. My daughter prefers to sleep on a mat on the floor.

+1 The new sleeper sofas with a memory foam-like mattress are excellent. We really enjoyed having them in several of our recent MVC stays. Our kids actually were looking forward to them at Ocean Pointe recently, but were disappointed. Apparently OceanPointe doesn't have them just yet.

Interesting thread...Years ago during plans for a refurb, I and a few others convinced MVC to place Murphy beds in the Marriott Kauai Beach Club Villas instead of uncomfortable sofa beds. Both my son and my rental guests have commented the Murphy beds are comfortable for ADULTS!
Sounds like the new sofa beds are a great alternative. This is good news, because as someone else mentioned, I would laugh at the occupancy numbers if adults sleeping on sofa beds were in the calculation...

I actually sleep on the sofa bed in Maui, leaving the main bed for my wife and kid. It's considerably more comfortable than the old ones.

We are looking to buy a comfortable sleeper sofa bed. Does anyone know the brand name or where they can be purchased? Thanks.

Comfort Sleeper by American Leather. They have them here at Shadow Ridge, where I am now. We were so impressed when they put them in, we talked to one of the senior managers to compliment them!

They’re very expensive. When I was looking they were $5000-$7000. If you happen to find one that’s less expensive I’d be interested.

The only problem with sleeper sofas is that they are not usually very comfortable to actually sit on. They are rather hard. We owned one. Also very HEAVY if you want to move them. I would never buy another one for our home.

That is my primary concern.
Yes, they are multi function items of furniture but I really wish that in all MVC resorts the sleeper sofas were chosen for sofa comfort first and sleeper comfort second.

I just made a call to a local furniture shop that carries this product line (which is the only way to get them since American Leather does not sell direct). The price I was quoted was $4,000 to $4,900 for this model: https://www.goodshomefurnishings.co...ion-sofa/gne-so2-qp-1001/iteminformation.aspx.

Priced with fabric. Leather is more expensive. There are also 2 levels of mattress upgrade. The foam mattress is standard. A gel mattress is available for an upcharge of $350. A Tempur-pedic mattress is an $899 upcharge.

Ouch....but there again, a good night's sleep is priceless for some people.....
