How does a point transfer from one MVC owner to another MVC owner work, I think I am asking about point rental

This old thread from 2014 explains the basics pretty well. A few things that have changed is you are now limited to renting 20K points annually INTO your account, another is a Transfer form is now required vs the phone call to MVC to transfer the points (which likely slows the process a bit), and last but not least, the pricing is higher now.... but other than that, things haven't changed too much. That should get you started, and if you have more questions from there, ask away and TUGgers will come to your aid.

These can now be done online from your account.

I had points transferred to my account as a renter (edited to make more clear I was a renter) , I transferred a week to a renter and I exchanged a week with a deeded owner of a fixed week with my points reservation. We each filled out our own form. Everything was done via the online form. On the week I transferred to a renter, the form was filled out Friday and moved over by Tuesday. When using the form for weeks, once the transfer takes place, neither party receives an email notification. You have to do a find reservation to see it was done. With the transfer of a week using the form, after the transfer takes place, the rewards number of the original reservation gets wiped out and it is blank. The person who the unit is transferred to, can put in their rewards number. On the unit I reserved using points and transferred to a renter, the reservation is removed from my Marriott.com account because the rewards number is removed but it stays shows in MVCI points reservation but with the new persons name in it.

Even though the process is easy, it still is easier to get onto Marriott.com and make the change (for weeks). The added benefit is your rewards number stays in and there is a chance you can get the credit. More times than not, I get the credit.

What you did is a guest name change, the OP is asking about transferring actual points.

From my prospective even the points transfer is a name change for my use just as a week rental is. You have ownership of the rental after the name change. In both cases you have limited usage because of the name change. This being said I think I did answer the question.

I thought one could only transfer points online for renting, but I edited my response to make it clearer that I was answering the question as a person who was the "to another MVC owner".

I also thought it would be helpful to show the online process works for other changes including renting points using the form and than renting the week the points reserved.

Do you use some type of escrow service to insure the transaction
I never have, but trusted the person who rented them to me based on what I knew about them. If it is a lot of $$ no reason you couldn't use an escrow.
