We are headed to OWV for our 7th year next week, this time with 3 units (keeps growing!) and I obviously know the layout of the resort, but want to be familiar with the floor plans when we check in as we have oceanview, oceanside and oceanfront units and I'd like to be able to tell from the room numbers where the units are located. I know the general protocol is that for a room number ABCD - A=building (1 conch, 2 scallop, 3 starfish, 4 maple and 5 pine); BC is the floor (i.e. 01-16); and D is the unit number.
For Starfish it is less critical as all are oceanfront (although it would be nice to know if the unit is a center unit or an end unit - there is a slight difference); and for Pine or Maple the key for the OV room is to be as high as possible. But it would be helpful to know that, say, odd units in Scallop face the Dunes club (we had a low floor last year on the Dunes club side and got a glorious view of their dumpsters...) and even face the pool, odd in Conch face the pool and even the Marriott hotel, etc...
Last year we had two units and both were, for oceanfront and oceanside, relatively sub par (end unit in starfish with the small deck and less direct view and the aforementioned dumpster room; had another unit in frenchman's cove that was traded for another two weeks at OWV so 4 total units but scheduling made getting them in Aug not possible).
On check in, once you've got the room assignment they don't make changes easily so it would be nice to have some idea when they hand over three units to be able to have some idea of where they are so we can request a different room if we're overlooking the dumpster again, for example. Given our family owns 4 units I'm surprised that we don't get better assignments each year although it is unclear how that is done, and my father in law is the title holder and is not aggressive about requesting good rooms so perhaps the squeakier wheels get the grease. I accompany him to check in so I'd like to squeak a bit if necessary!
Thanks for your help!
