Anyone knows how Asia Pacific points work and do they even transfer?

AP Points were introduced before Abound (then Destination Club Points).
They come with some specific benefits but since the two programmes were “aligned“ the Points are effectively equivalent and can both be used to book all of the MVC portfolio of resorts.
The major advantage of AP Points is the much lower MF per Point.
However, it has been well reported that “Membership contracts from AP cannot be transferred to people with residence in the US”
So this would certainly need checking for anyone interested in buying AP Points.

Interesting. So they are effectively the same as Abound Club Points, even resale? Prior to Destinations Club, in order to reserve other MVC properties outside the AP system, did AP point owners have to use II? When Destinations Club rolled around, there was no enrollment necessary?

Others cn probably answer some of these questions better than me, but as a starter.
Only weeks were sold initially in Asia (and only at Phuket Beach Club PBC)
Once AP points were introduced, all unsold weeks inventory was conveyed to the AP points programme and PBC weeks owners had an option for a fee to “overlay” those weeks into the points programme.
This continued to be the only option from when the Destination Club DC was launched in 2010 through to 2016 when those PBC weeks could be enrolled in the DC Points programme, still for a fee, which required cancelling their overlay in the AP points programme.
When AP was first introduced, there was a very limited number of MVC resorts Worldwide they could be used at to book directly, otherwise as I recall yes you needed to use Interval for other resorts.
Also back then AP points were at a 10:1 ratio to DC points, so a Platinum PBC week was worth 32,700 AP points.
Finally AP and DC were aligned, so on a 1:1 ratio and with all MVC resorts available to book directly.
There are still some differences, especially those beneficial to AP owners with lower MFs and at highest levels complimentary limo transfer to the resort.

There is one listing on Marketplace. Think it has lower MF but works exactly the same as US trust points. Does anyone know if resale AP points have any restriction, or require $3 per point enrollment fee to work the same? The seller advertises only $250 to transfer. If true, could work for those who have a non-US residence.

[Moderator Note: OP's related threads have been merged. I would say TUGger @bazzap is most knowledgable about AP Points so perhaps he'll see this and respond.] <-- SueDonJ

Can you use resale trust points in Abound without any kind of re-enrollment like exists on the weeks side? Are you saying they can be used to book properties outside of Asia Pacific points properties??

I suspect if the above is true, either it is not well known or that the people that do know aren't all that forthcoming to share such information.

I’m pretty sure it can be used to book US properties (the official website says it as well) I just don’t know enough about the resales.

AP Points can be used to book any MVC resort Worldwide.
Resale AP Points do not require the same $3 per Point full activation fee as with Resale Abound Points.
It has been reported that MVC have restrictions in place now to prevent US residents from buying AP Points, but others would need to confirm this.

I've heard you can't waitlist with AP points, but I never tried so I can't confirm. I've also heard about the US resident restriction. That's another one that I'm not sure whether it's true. It wasn't the case when I bought them and I don't know if existing owners are exempt from that or not.

IMO, the biggest deterrent to buying AP points is the sale. You'll likely need to do an international wire transfer. I had to go to 4 different branches of my bank before I could convince someone to even let me do it. Also, the contract expires at some point. For me that's ok because I didn't put that much into it and it will expire around the time I want to be done with it. It used to be that you couldn't reserve any of the "exchange" properties online, but that isn't the case anymore. They also let you combine points for status and reservations now which is nice. If you want to rent points from another owner, that market is practically non-existent.

That's about all I can think of right now.

Someone mentioned in an older thread that Asia Pacific points have a 2056 expiration.

Yes that sounds about right.

I was also ROFRd a couple of times which I found odd. Digging around the Internet, I had not heard of that with AP points previously. I suspect the broker got creative on the 3rd try.
