For those of you that have been to MOW - recently I have some questions - we go the end of July

1. how crowded are the pools now?
2. how is the parking -we have a top for the van so can not park in the garage
3. do they shuttle you to the units
4. what are some of the activities going on - ie do they have water aerobics yet

any other info is will help

I was there 4th of July week.

1. Pools were crowded but not rediculous.

2. The parking garage is open so I suspect you will not be able to use it and will have to park at the check-in center parking lot.

3. I imagine that they would run you from the satellite parking at the check-in center to buildings on the golf carts if you request it. I don't believe they have the buses any longer with the garage being open.

4. When I was there they had lot's of activities with a big July 4th celebration. They had a band playing at the pool, watermelon eating contest, kids activities, bingo, and lot's more. I don't remember seeing water aerobics on the list but they had 5 to 6 things each day. Call the resort and ask them to fax you an activity sheet.

Show me the poo-poos!

We were just at MOC last week – had a great time.

If you want a prime spot by the pool you MUST be up and down by the pool around 6:50 AM. All the prime spots are gone by 7 AM. If you leave your towel on a chair and don’t return for 45 minutes they WILL confiscate your towels and you must pay $10 to get them out of jail! These prime locations are around the umbrellas.

However, during the week you could find good chairs free during the day and the pool was not crowed at all.

Parking at the MOC is spelled DISASTER! We exchanged in and were not charged $10 per day like renters are. ALL parking is valet and at busy times you can wait 15 minutes for the car to be fetched. There are no limits to height – there are no structures to park under. The cars are scattered all over the property.

It is kind of cool to be a big shot and pull up and just let the valet park your car – I kind of got used to it.

We saw just a yoga class but they could have all kinds of activities going on – especially for the kids.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and can’t wait until the next exchange.

Monday night, I think it was, had a great owners meeting – free drinks and poo-poos (sp?) all kinds of goodies to eat. I’m sure I put away 3 beers a half dozen plates of poo-poos – I was poo-pooed out and a happy camper. You had to wear a name badge and indicate your home resort. 90% were Maui!

Perry, that was a good summary of your stay on Maui...but the original poster was asking about Marriott's Ocean Watch in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Too much poo-poos

I guess poo-poos have a lingering effect to ones reading ability.

Sorry, I'll try harder this week.

P.S.
Too many "Ocean"s in Marriott resort names.

Marriott Resort names

Perry,

I agree that Marriott has too many similar names: Ocean Watch, Surf Watch, Summit Watch. After a while, it's hard to remember what I'm supposed to be watching. :)

perry,
don't feel bad. i was just browsing through the responses and i was very happy to read about your stay at MOC. we will be there in february so it was fun to get an update on what is going on there. i'm not too happy about the valet only parking. what if you go in and out a couple times a day?? that could get expensive at 10.00 a crack. do they still have the bus that will pick guests up at the MOC and take them to lahaina??
glad you had a good time. we are really looking forward to it.

Re: MOW///MOC

MOW////MOC update - I'll keep it short.

Really the parking is not that bad if you realize that at 5 - 7 PM you need to wait 10 - 15 minutes. Other times it probably wasn't longer than if you had parked and walked to your car - all the valets were always running at a good clip and for Marriott owners it's free (well except for the tip for the poor valet - they were dripping wet all the time).

Getting from the airport to MOC is another matter - it's takes 1.5 hours now, just about twice as long as it used to be - the traffic into Lahina is terrible. In the past 3 years the permanent population of Maui has doubled form 60,000 to 120,000. These are the baby boomers retiring to Maui and it will double every 3 years for decades. The average home on Maui is now $1.1 M if it's fee simple, up 27% from last year.

Sorry to intrude on this thread; if anyone want's more info on MOC please PM me.

we will be at ocean watch late in august. would it be worth it to bring our bikes along? when we go to hilton head we take them and ride them on the beach. Is that allowed in myrtle beach? Are there any bike paths close to the resort? we own at ow and can't wait for our first trip!!

That is an interesting question, I do not recall seeing any bikes on the beach but I cannot imagine that it would not be allowed. There are lots of places to ride but I don't recall seeing any specific trails. I did see a map of Myrtle Beach that showed a Green Way but it did not come near the resort.

We were there in April and I didn't really see any places to ride bicycles.
There was too much construction around the third building and it was a little bit of a maze to get from where you checked in to the two buildings that are currently open. There isn't any place to ride around the buildings, as they are very close to the beach. I am guessing when they build the garden section there might be more of an area to possibly ride a bicycle around the resort.
I don't think they allow bicycles on the beach and I did not see anyone with bicycles at the resort.

You can ride bikes in the neighborhood around the resort on the streets but as I said I am not aware of any trails.
