What are your favorite movies that I can get on DVD - old and current ones that I can get in the future when they come out - like Social Network. I am keeping a list so I can get them at the library. TIA

My favorite movie of all time is Shawshank Redemption. Other greats are:
Caddyshack
Wedding Crashers
The Hangover
Saw 1-7 (love gore based on mind games)
Avatar

I just saw The King's Speech and the remake of True Grit and really enjoyed them both. I guess a lot will depend on what kind of movies you like ?

Do you like foreign films? I liked "Ponette"-French (have a huge box of tissues handy) and more recently I have enjoyed "Departures"-Japanese (small box of tissues should suffice) and "Les Choristes"--French. My DH doesn't like films when he has to read subtitles but I don't mind. The original Japanese version of "Shall We Dance" was great, better than the Americanized version.

I liked the very visually beautiful martial arts films "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "Hero." The latter was done in different color themes and was quite artistic.

Some of my favorites:

Top Gun
Men in Black
Independence Day
A Few Good Men
As Good As It Gets
Rush Hour
Air Force One
The Princess Bride
Milk Money (not sure if it's on DVD)
Space Cowboys
Black Hawk Down
Facing the Giants
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Waterboy
Analyze This
The Greatest Game Every Played
What Women Want
Fireproof
The Patriot
National Treasure
The Rock
U.S. Marshals
Under Siege
Star Wars (IV - VI)
Mission: Impossible
The Hunt for Red October
Tommy Boy
Time Changer
The Great Raid
Good Will Hunting
The Karate Kid

Tough question in that I would have a hard time in providing a short list and of course some of the older ones fade from memory but here goes, in no particular order:

Great Escape
Braveheart
Band of Brothers set
Lord of the Rings extended version set
Grand Torrino
What Dreams May Come
Blind Side
A Kight's Tale
The Dark Knight
Catch me if you can
Polar Express
Saving Private Ryan
Finding Neverland

Stalag 17
Hitch
The Proposal
Annie Hall

I highly recommend The Secret in Their Eyes (Argentine Spanish with English titles). It won the 2010 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1305806/

Netflix has it. It's sort of a police/mystery; a 21st Century Hitchcock. Totally different from them, but it made me think of Vertigo, Se7en and The Usual Suspects. For adults only (not in a sexy way, but you don't want to see it with persons under 17).

Movies

A really good foreign film I seen lately about the Danish resistance in WWII is called "Flame and Citroen". It's a true story, however it's subtitled.

Two American movies I've seen recently that will be nominated for academy awards are True Grit and The Kings Speech. What I really like about both of them is they make you feel like you've gone back in time.

My all time favorite is "The Godfather" and the first sequel.

Field of Dreams
Dances with Wolves
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Bourne Trilogy
Invictus
Apollo 13
Cool Hand Luke
Twelve Angry Men
To Kill A Mockingbird
All About Eve
BBC/PBS Series: Foyle's War, Lark Rise to Candleford, Downton Abbey, the Inspector Morse Mysteries, Inspector Linley Mysteries
Pride and Prejudice (2005 version)
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Little Miss Sunshine
It's Complicated
Kung Fu Panda

We don't watch a lot of movies but a few I watch again and again:

Wild Hogs
Trading Places
True Lies
So I Married an Axe Murderer - probably my favourite
