Monetizing Points ( DRI- point redemption? )

We are owners in Diamond Resorts. They talk about monetizing points and then using this cash ( we apparently send in receipts ) to help pay for rental car, flights etc.

How does this work and has anyone here done this??

Thanks for any help.

using points for anything other than resorts makes little economic sense.

the other options are better then just throwing the points away but there is no great value.
