Monarch - What building to request?

Hi Everyone, We've gotten an exchange into Monarch for late September/early October and wondering what building to request for best ocean views (given we're owners but not at Monarch)?

Also we have some points that expire at the end of this year. How do I try to tag them onto the front or back of this reservation? The week is through II and points are in Marriott. Is that a conundrum?

Thanks in advance!

The Azalea Building is the building closest to the Ocean. But, some units in Azalea are oceanfront, and some units are garden view (some of the units may be pool view but they fall under garden view).

Keep in mind a large chunk of Monarch Villas are fixed week and fixed location. Very few of the Villas "float". Your particular exchange could mean you are obtaining someone's fixed week which means asking for anything will be naught. On the other hand, you may be trading into a floating week, so asking may help.

Marriott's Monarch Resort was Marriott's very first Resort back in 80's.

Best of luck!

As Time Traveler said, only one building in Azalea has true OF rooms. See map with unit numbers on the link below. We were assigned Azalea 3823 and trees impeded the view quite a bit. Some Magnolia rooms (eg 3541) have much better views than non ocean facing Azalea rooms, but trees can also impede the view here. (Not complaining. You’ll appreciate the shade in the summer!)

At the owners site, which is public, they have a nice map and feature that allows you to see what view each specific room will have.

Last I heard, MVCI owns 37% of the units at the Monarch. Since the Monarch does not have ROFR, most were acquired from an owner default agreement with the HOA over time. I have never seen a breakdown by season but I think it is safe to assume most are not summer season (Monarchs equivalent of platinum). Given this, I think you have a decent chance to get a building request . I would ask for Magnolia and the Azalea buildings high floor. This is unit 3843, a garden view in the Azalea building.

To use your points check what view you have from your exchange (code should be in history or check your Bonvoy account and look up the code meaning here on tug).
Then book that exact same thing with your points to try to avoid changing units if that’s the goal.
Waitlist as needed.
Consider another MVC if you can’t get Monach- I recommend Grande Ocean and Barony.

Not a conundrum but no guarantee they won’t move you, but they will avoid having to turn over the room if they can.

You can also use 325 points for $110 in resort credits- not sure what you can use them for at Monarch.

Also consider insurance since you are traveling during hurricane season.

Monarch is really small and most of the units face the interior of the property which is actually very pretty. Unless you really want to see a glimpse of the ocean, I would suggest that you consider a first floor unit. Your balcony actually walks straight out into the courtyard. For me that made it real easy to the main building, pool, grills, etc. One time I was able to get the 3BR penthouse using abound points. It was huge and had its own hot tub. IMO, Monarch is a great resort. I second the idea of looking at other Marriotts including the non-beach ones in Sea Pines.

We had a great view from an end-unit Garden View unit shown here…
