Looking for a timeshare more or less half way between Washington, DC and Wisconsin Dells. Need to break up the trip.

Best thing I've come up with for a stop is the Visiting Officers' Quarters at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, OH. A place to crash but hardly timeshare level.

What about Club Wyndham/ WorldMark Galena? Saw that on the map just now on Wyndham's site. It's 14 hours away from Washington DC and not all that far from Dells. Well, that probably won't be what you want.

You could go to HICV Timber Creek in Desoto MO (St Louis) and then to HICV Fox River Resort just outside of Chicago

which is why timeshares don't really work as convenient stopovers for a lot of places. Not really any tourist meccas where people would want to vacation year round on that route that would make building a timeshare worth it to a developer.

Of those mentioned, fox river resort is only possibility it is maybe a 12 hour drive from DC. Galena and St. Louis have you driving out of your way. Fox river resort probably two and a half hours away from Dells. French lick would be out of your way. I think Nashville would be out of your way too. I have home in Dells but only made the drive from DC once and we stayed overnight at a hotel in Pennsylvania
going to Glacier Canyon?

I looked at Galena. It's too close to the Dells, too far away from DC, and quite a dogleg.

I know! I looked for spots along the way but there isn't much of anything along the way. Corn fields!

WPAFB will do if that's the best option.

Trying to. Neither of us has been there and it seems to be quite popular.

I forgot about French Lick, Indiana. If you are considering Wright-Patt, that might work out instead.

Would let you see the National Museum of the US Air Force along the way if you haven't (take an extra day)

Out of the way a bit for a Dells to DC trip but I like Worldmark Lake of the Ozarks (Osage, MO).. I stayed there last year and was surprised. I don't want to set expectations too high for worldmark, but I liked the resort for a Worldmark. FWIW I drove my all electric EV from Oregon to Chicago for that trip. There is a DCFC at Dierbergs in Osage which worked out nicely.

This is about 5 hours from Dells and 8-9 from DC area. Relatively close to 80/90 toll road, shopping, University of Notre Dame.

Been there and it is awesome!

I worked at and lived on WPAFB for four years when I was active duty Navy. I was teaching at a DOD school there. Loved the job but wasn't crazy about SW Ohio.

My son is a Buckeye -- born in the base hospital.

When I was at Purdue, studying Aero/Astro Engineering, the Air Force would arrange a trip for seniors to tour the labs at Wright-Patt, eat lunch at the O-club and round the afternoon out at the museum. I was a 2 year senior (10 year plan  ) and I got to go twice. :cheer:

Popular because of the terrific indoor and outdoor water parks and the rest of the dells. If you don’t use the waterparks, other resorts will let you see the dells. If you aren’t using the waterparks, do not chose odyssey dells. .
I live at Christmas mountain in the summer. Sometimes my daughter would buy passes to the wilderness water parks, but oldest grandson will no longer go, middle one and smallest one need separate people watching over them due to types of rides, which have height restrictions

I’d say it’s a bit out of the way. We live in dells and owned a timeshare in lake of the ozarks. It was a very long days drive to get there and were so happy when we got rid of it.

Growing up in Fairfax County . . . and now living in Milwaukee, I have done the trip back & forth many times. I've found that depending on which route I take and how much time I want to spend overnighting on the way, Kentucky or Ohio are the best for a hotel stop. I have also used my MIL's place in the Indianapolis area as a stopover. I have made the 14 hour trip direct, without an overnight too.

I don't drive for fourteen hours straight. I used to!

Last time I did anything like that was New Orleans to Fairfax County -- almost 1,100 miles. Wife got sick in N.O. and not only couldn't she drive, she couldn't talk. Spent the entire time under a blanket huddled against the passenger side door. Left N.O. at 10 AM, pulled into our driveway at 4:30 AM.

"Lord, get us home this time and I'll never do this again!"

I booked a 2BR Pres unit at Wyndham Sundara Cottages for five nights in late June 2024. We won't do water parks so five nights should be enough to see the area. Not worried about an intermediate stop for a while. Could be at Wright-Patt or we could book a hotel using Hilton Honors or Wyndham Rewards.

What about PeeknPeak in western NY state next to the PA border by Erie? It'd be @ a 9 hour drive to the Dells from there.

Not a very direct route -- big dog-leg from Fairfax County, VA to Wisconsin Dells.

Congratulations. If you want to see the beauty of the dells, you might make it in five days. Be sure to take the upper Dells boat trip, and go to mirror lake and devils lake state parks, rent a kayak at one of them. see the international crane foundation, it has all 15 species of crane, you will see them close up. Circus world museum and the town where the Ringling brothers grew up, Baraboo. If you have time drive to House on the Rock and also see Taleisen. by the way, at Mirror Lake is the Seth Peterson Cottage, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I usually recommend the Ducks ride too, for a little peek at the lower Dells and Lake Delton. Sadly our big attraction is gone, the Tommy Bartlett ski, sky, and stage show.

Thanks for answering my next question!

Looks like I may have to add a day or two!
