We have an II reservation for the Miami Beach TS next Sunday and received the following message from the resort. Any advice as to what to ask for before we call II and what kind of accommodation we could expect? We have one retrade left and currently, there's is nothing available in south Florida.

Dear Owners and Guests,

We look forward to welcoming you for your upcoming stay at Marriott Vacation Club Pulse®, South Beach.

In advance of your arrival, we wanted to make you aware that the City of Miami Beach has recently implemented a series of emergency measures to limit gatherings in the area of Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, South Beach in response to substantial spring break visitation in the Miami Beach area.

Effective immediately, and currently anticipated to continue through April 13th, these emergency measures currently include the following weekly restrictions from Thursday evenings through Monday mornings:
  • A curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. in the area bounded by 5th Street to the south, 16th Street to the north, Pennsylvania Avenue to the west, and Ocean Drive (the location of Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, South Beach) to the east.
  • Cafes and restaurants within the curfew zone must be fully closed to diners by 7 p.m. and are only permitted to provide delivery service after that time.
  • From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Ocean Drive will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Exceptions include City of Miami Beach residents accessing their residence, hotel guests accessing their accommodations (including owners and guests of Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, South Beach), and employees accessing business establishments.
  • A series of nightly closures/restrictions are also planned from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. for the MacArthur Causeway and Julia Tuttle Causeway; however, owner and guest access to/from Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, South Beach will still be permitted. A reservation confirmation (email or printed confirmation) will be required to be shown to proceed to the property.
The above measures are subject to change at any time and Owners/ guests are encouraged to regularly visit the City of Miami Beach website to obtain the most current information prior to your arrival.

For those Owners and guests who may require assistance with their upcoming reservation, please note the following:
  • Owners: Please visit the Marriott Vacation Club® website to make expedient changes to your reservation, including cancellations. There, you’ll also find the most current information regarding the status of resorts and cancellation policies.

  • Interval International® Exchange Guests: Please contact Interval International directly at 800-468-3782 to discuss available options.

I don’t mean sound negative, and of course this is an unprecedented situation so I don’t really know but I think II is going to tell you to use your eplus if you don’t want to go through with your reservation- especially since the resort isn’t closed.

You might try asking to have the flexchange restriction removed from your eplus if that would help depending on it’s expiration or for an AC to use later if the expiration date is very soon or to have the flexchange restriction removed if you cancel your stay and get a replacement week. Seems like this happening on such short notice you might be able to get out of flexchange restriction to move forward.

Good luck.

Not sure an evening curfew in Miami Beach due to spring break crowds warrants any accommodation. The resort is still open.

I would go and enjoy, just stay away from the spring breakers :) . You may have to just pickup dinner in advance.

I disagree with the advice to "go and enjoy", if you have the ability to change your plans. We used to love our visits to South Beach. We stayed in South Beach last week, and during our visit we ate at a restaurant two blocks from the Pulse property, and we felt very unsafe. You should watch some of the videos that are widely available about the situation in South Beach. The mayor and authorities are working to restore order, but at least as of a week ago, it was a lawless and unsafe place to be after sunset. On that Sunday evening, at about 7 pm, the authorities brought in backup Miami-Dade County police to attempt to support the Miami Beach police, but that did little to help the situation. The upscale restaurant where we were eating hired an armed guard for the entrance. The curfew is scheduled to be in place until April 13, for good reason. Very sad situation.

II is offering me the ability to change my reservation to any available week in the next two years as long as we make the change by 3/37. Westin Lagunarmar has availability next January and that is most likely where we will go.

Thanks for the advice.

That’s great! Glad it worked out and that II is helping.
