Mexico Timeshare Resales

My wife and I own a Mexican timeshare. Before I mention which resort it is I wanted to ask if any Tuggers have had the same experience with after market purchases. We bought the timeshare as a resale nine years ago and have been going back to Puerto Vallarta every year since. The first four to five years we were treated very well, then the resort must have audited the members because we were "flagged" as having an "acquired" membership. All the perks we enjoyed before were now only available to those that bought directly from the developer. In fact we don't even receive as much as those that exchange or book through a travel agent. We pay the same in maintenance fees as those that bought directly. Is this common or an isolated case? I thought owning a week at a resort would give you more than someone who exchanges. Thoughts?

Thanks.

I've never heard of this before. Maybe if you post the name of the resort other owners can respond.

I've never received different treatment

We've bought at the Royals from the developer at original prices, resales from the developer, resale from eBay, resale from Holiday Group, exchanged, rented from owners, and rented through the developer, and have never been treated any differently.

As you pointed out, you are paying the same maintenance fee. Even an exchanger should be treated the same, because the owner still paid that maintenance fee.

You might want to check your contracts to see if there's anything in there about different statuses and perks.

Great treatment at Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan

Bought our week CHEAP-CHEAP-CHEAP on eBay (under $500 total, with 12 yrs remaining at the time) and they treat us like royalty.

I own at paradise village as well and I rent from other owners to extend my vacation. The only "perk" we are told we cannot have when is the spa and gym. But we talked to customer service and they allowed us to go without charge. We do know other owners that bought resale and the spa and gym is what they are told they can't get for free. What other perks are you being denied.

I would ask for a rebate on the portion of my mf's go toward maintaining the spa and gym. I would also ask to see a written contract that states these perks are not covered. I always thought Paradise Village was one of the better timeshares in Mexico. Guess I thought wrong.

Definitely take this matter up with the customer service dept. This is outrageous.
