Merging secondary market points with existing ownership

I can purchase secondary market points considerably cheaper than purchasing directly from Marriott, but I am concerned about merging them into my existing ownership. Will Marriott allow me to merge and, if so, is there a fee? I would appreciate comments from anyone who has information.

You can often do better still in other ways unless you only need a small number usually with some type of weeks purchase or resale week combined with a qualifying week purchase.

Short answer: yes, you can add resale points to your MVC account. But to have them fully functional you'll have to pay an additional $3/point ($3,000 minimum, so buy 1,000 points or more to be cost-effective) to MVC.

You do preferably want to make sure though that the Usage years are the same though, otherwise it will be more complicated to manage your ownership.

Thanks Sponger and Bazzap. I was aware of the usage year issue and it was helpful to confirm the cost to tie to my MVC account. My understanding is that there is a new level of ownership with the Abound program which will have significant benefits when making resort reservations. I'm trying to verify the new level and exactly what those benefits are.

A new Ownership level has been suggested / hinted at for at least 2 or 3 years now.
I wouldn’t hold too high hopes of anything coming anytime soon.

It’s a long time sales lie to claim there is a new level “coming soon” so you better buy now to get in before the levels go up.

There have been no new levels announced. And no new benefits disclosed.

You just reminded me that at my last sales presentation they told me that they were going to require more points for the executive levels and that I should get grandfathered in now.

Two weeks ago, I was informed the same by sales. Timeframe is early next year

Even if there will be a new level, its very unlikely that the added benefits are worth the cost of additional points unless you only need a very small amount. Get the points if you want and can use more points within MVC.
