Hello

I have searched the forum and can't really find what I am looking for.
Maybe it should be a sticky. I am really looking at buying into HGVC (resale), and/or Worldmark. I am just trying to see the differences/advantages

Basically I want to know about Merging HGVC points.

Can I
But a 3400 Point account and then a 5000 point account from resellers, and merge them to get 8400 Point account?
How does this affect my MF's
Would I have to pay 1 or 2 MF's
If they are are at different resorts, how does this affect my home resort booking advantages(I think there are some).

I don't understand the whole silver/gold/Platinum naming of accounts. Aren't they just 3400/5000/7000 point acccounts, and the only advantage is that high traffic weeks (call em red if you want), are more points.

I see the prices for smaller accounts on ebay is pretty cheap. is HGVC doing ROFR on them as well?

Thanks
I really appreciate your help.

as long as the deads for both weeks are the same they can be merged into the same account. You will save the club fee but the maint fee is based upon the resort owned and the week. If you combine the points from 2 weeks you still have the same maint fee.

The reason why the gold and silver weeks cost less is you often pay the same maint fee for less points as platinum.

Gold season can be a good buy for a 2 bedroom in vegas which has lower fee's but platinum is going to be better as you get 7000 points for the same yearly maint fee

The issue here is that you will be paying two maintenance fees, and the combined MFs for 3400 points + MFs for 5000 points will be much higher that MFs for a single 8400 points week.

7000 and 8400 weeks (platinum) are more expensive than gold or silver weeks because you pay the same MFs, but get more points with platinum.

** Worldmark **
If you combine two contracts, you will save maintenance fee, but you may get loss of housekeeping tokens (HKT).
Owners get 1 HKT for each 10,000 credits. For example, 5000 credit through 10,000 credit are getting the same number of HKT (1 HKT). 10,001 credits through 20,000 credits get 2 HKT.
So if you have one 6,000 credit contract and one 12,000 credit contract, you will get three HKT each year. However, if you combine those two contract, you can save a little for MF, but you will get only two HKT each year. So you need to consider which one is better for your need.

** HGVC **
You CANNOT combine two contracts (deed) into one unless you buy something from the developer and make an arrange with them - developer buy back two contracts and sell one bigger points.
If you buy multiple contracts (deeds), you can see all of them in your ONE account. But you need to pay multiple MF.
So buying a small number of contract and combine the points is waste of your money.
Hilton owners pay the same MF by the unit size, not by the seasons (number of points). For example, platinum 2BR (7000 points), gold 2BR (5000 points) and silver 2BR (3400 points) are paying the same MF each year. That's why 7000 point packages are sold much higher prices than 5000 points or 3400 points.

In addition to what was stated above...

Keep in mind that WorldMark (WM) is a pure points system (aka credits). You don't own a deeded week at any resort. See this post for more details - http://wmowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12772

While HGVC is a combination of a week/points system. You own a deeded week at a specific resort in a specific unit size, unit type and season and assigned a specific number of HGVC points each year based on these factors.

With HGVC, the home resort booking window (12 months to 9 months before checkin) works like a weeks system. You can only book what you own (in the unit size, type and season) for the full week during the designated check-in days. Then HGVC works like a point system outside the home resort booking window (9 months before checkout), any resort, any unit size and type during any season for any number of days with a three night minimum.

While evaluating the differences and advantages also think about how you plan to use your timeshare (aka your goals)....
I bought HGVC primarily for access to the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
I bought WM for exchanging (see my old post - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showpost.php?p=318062&postcount=5)

Good Luck and Welcome to TUG :)
