My sister is going to Cancun in April. She booked two rooms at the blue bay club. She will take our parents and her family with DS7 and DD5. The Blue Bay club is all-inclusive for $68 per adults per day, kids are free, tax might not be included.

I just spotted a last minute 2 bedroom available at Mayan Palace Riviera Maya. I put it on hold for her. But I could not find any TUG review. I did find many thread by searching the forum. Both seem to be nice resorts.

Which one would you pick? Please advice.

There are several reviews for this resort. Go to the TUG Resort Databases and search in Mexico in Playa del Carmen.

The Mayan Palace is a nice resort, close to Playa Del Carmen and closer to Tulum, Xcaret, Xel Ha, etc. than Can Cun. They have an enormous, beautiful pool and good food at their four restaurants. They offer dinner shows and activities for everyone. But this is not an all inclusive resort.

If your parents have a difficult time with walking any distance, I might want to go to the other place you mentioned that I have no knowledge of.

Also, if you like to drink(especially) or eat often, don't want to prepare any of your own stuff and plan to stick around the resort, I might chose the other place.

I love the Mayan Palace, and as an owner, I usually don't get a room very far away. We spend a majority of our time exploring the area (by Taxi, not within walking distance) and we buy groceries for most lunches and breakfasts. When we eat at the resort it's more of a dining experience and the food is very good.

There's also a golf course on site that my husband loves and we would pay an extra weekly fee to use the Gym/Sauna all week, it's great.

Thanks for the information on Mayan Palace. I found the web site and the review. The place looks beautiful. Since this is their first trip to Mexico, I think they would like to explore some. How far is the walk to get to taxi and how much is the fair to Playa del Carmen? We stopped by Playa del Carmen one night on our way back from Xel Ha and had dinner. I think my parents would love to do that.

I recently returned from the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya. The resort now offers a shuttle to and from Playa del Carmen for 4 USD p/p round-trip. The shuttle goes to the Mega store which is about four blocks from the northern end of the main tourist area. The cost of a taxi is 195 pesos one-way.

Getting around to explore-Hard!!!

I would not suggest the Mayan Palace or Grand Mayan to anyone that does not want to spend half the day getting to whereever they are going. I just got back and am pretty agile. The transportation takes way to long and it is just not worth the pretty grounds to start off on a path and end up 40 minutes later at your destination. The shuttles to playa del carmen stop at 9:00 (coming back) so if you go for dinner and shopping its get back on your own by taxi. Everyone was complaining all week about transportation issues. 20 minutes to the pool. No beach at all-it must have the worst beach in all of Mexico. I'd choose Blue Bay in Cancun if I had a re-do.
