Hiya,

I just wanted to report an exchange issue I had with Mayan Palace last week.

I try to keep ahead of things and stay a year out so I can get full valuation of deposits and get good choices for any trades I do.

So I paid for my 2015 week last week on June 2, 2014 and had Mayan Palace deposit into my RCI weeks account.

I decided to do a points for deposit when I noticed the valuation, some 11,500 points less than I have received the past few years!

After some investigation and emails with RCI I found out Mayan Palace gave me a Silver Crown Resort : Mayan Palace Nuevo Vallarta Resort ID:6631

- instead of a Gold Crown which I purchased many years ago.

I didn’t even know Mayan Palace had a silver crown so I didn’t think to ask “is this a Gold Crown”, after all every other year I received a Gold Crown equivalent.

So I feel short changed by Mayan Palace(Vida), I believe it is their doing as RCI explained it is the resort which deposits the week.

And of course my fault for not being diligent when they gave me the week.

My contract is for a floating red week at a Gold crown at Mayan Palace.

So not only is it buyer beware, but depositor beware!?!?! Next go round I may try SFX?? (not sure)

I’ve spoken to a Mayan Palace Rep on the phone, they said they would call me and I have sent them an email detailing my situation…

To date I have not heard back from them.

If they do not or are unable to adjust my account…. Then I’m just SOL, however with a bit of a sour feeling….

My only recourse is to “vote with my wallet”… I like Mexico & the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya, fabulous resort! And it’s in the Caribbean, love the Caribbean!

But I have many other Caribbean options including home resort & home group on some amazing Islands mon! And some driving vacation options in the southern States….

I will wait for a response to see what happens, hopefully my next post on this matter will be positive!!!

Thanks

Paul

It's the location and time of year that matters most. I own a summer week studio in Cape Cod with no rating and it gives me more TPU's than anything else. I own weeks not points so I don't know how they match up. Last year I got 22 TPU's for 1 bdr in Acapulco with a check in of 12/13. That's probably one of the lowest travel weeks of the year. I own in PV. I never get PV when I deposit. It's probably the most popular MP. I don't know if SFX will accept MP.

So FRUSTRATED with VIDA!!!!

Vida is REALLY messing with loyal MP. Owners big time. We JUST got a call from RCI saying that the EXTRA VACATIOn that they CONFIRMED and we paid for MUST be cancelled because we were in NV in FEb 2014 ( had used another timeshare for one of our weeks). and VIDA now has a 3 in 1 rule ( established May 8 ). We had booked the EXTRA vacation on May 18th and RCI did not block it then. So mad right now I can hardly write. We were planning to string together 6 weeks using our 2 registered weeks, the one extra vacation, the one booked week using our other timeshare and my sisters two GL weeks. We have booked our flights as well. So now we are without a place from February 13. -20. Any suggestions fellow Tuggers!:(

Hi Pat H.. my TPU's was only 20 .. I use RCI points mostly so I wasn't aware of the low value they gave me. Buyer beware? Next time I will know... I will have to check to see if my contract is the type you can skip a payment if you don't use it...

And to read the issue travs2 has.. wowsers... that is ...?? sucks...
Can you book thru SFX? ICE? or another trading site? Redweek sometimes has weeks to trade? and sometimes you can pick up a rental on Ebay ??? (can I mention those companies on here?)

As for Vida turning away business.. guess they are not feeling the effects of the lingering recession... always fully booked eh ???

I dunno...

Are they Vida doing the less for more routine now?

I don't have a good feeling towards them now.. still soured... but hey... it won't last!
We just booked a cruise with 2 and perhaps 3 other couples on Royal Caribbean next year.. so I'm happy!!!

I also have plans to take one of the a fore mentioned couples to Aruba with me next Jan too!

Too bad I couldn't take them all with me to Mexico... (sarc)

K sorry for sarcasm, but my point is, if I'm thrilled and treated well by a TS property/ company I will share!!!

Otherwise... not so much...

But I do still like their Resorts...

...still waiting for reply from Vida, and I will post good news if I have any..

Hi Pat,

I just checked and looks like SFX does accept MP, mine is MP Riviera Maya, it shows up on their list of resorts I can deposit... I have not used SFX in a while, I forgot!
And that is Gold Crown too!

Hi Travs2...
I was curious and took a look,
here is a rental from Red Week, it say varies, perhaps they can match your dates?

The Grand Bliss Nuevo Vallarta

01/02/15 - 01/09/15 7 $2,000 ($286/nt) Varies 2/ 2.5 8 View

Hello wptamo

Thanks for looking at redweek. Guess I will have to rent a week from someone. I'll start looking for a MP week. :annoyed:

Wptamo, 20 TPU's is not really that bad. I traded back into a 2 bdr at the GM in Mar for 18 TPU's. I am going to St. Martin next year. Don't know if I will ever go back to MP/GM.

MP RM is not fully booked. I was there two weeks ago and the waiters told me 60% booked and they feel the lack of RCI. It looked like a ghost town some days. I've never seen it that slow.

thanks for info Pat & BC

I was recently at a resort in Barbados, it too was not nearly fully booked... wife and I enjoyed the space for sure!

I'm no Geo-political expert, but I think we (Can/USA) are still feeling the lingering effects of recession, and the obvious spillover to resort towns...
Or, it was just off season...

I'd like to go back to GM tho, I enjoyed it!

On a more positive note...
I got a call from an RCI rep who is looking at this for me... perhaps it was just an oversight by the rep on the phone?? they all use to be Gold Crown... she was surprised too!
Perhaps I was a tad harsh in my responses.... happens when you type with a negative feeling.... is there white out so I can remove negative comments?

anyways.... being positive now.. looking for a good ending

laters!

Paul

The funny thing is when I was just on RCI looking, it shows the code for booking into exchanges as silver and the code for the same resort listed in the rentals are listed at gold. It just looks like Vida is doing everything they can to make it difficult for owners to use RCI.

Hiya, just a final update.
I'm happy to report that Mayan palace corrected the issue and credited my account the full points value.

Thanks

Paul

Hi, Paul,

I just noticed that your deposit was corrected to a better TPU, so that's great.

But I also wanted to add (per your first post) that the 'gold' or 'silver' crowns are awarded by RCI, not Vida. Supposedly, the various levels are based on visitor comment cards back to RCI.

So, it seems your contract should not state that you have a 'gold crown' membership. I'm not sure how they could commit in a contract what RCI may award them in the future.

But my point is the gold or silver awards are assigned by RCI, not Vida.
Vida does bulk deposits ahead of time, and I've never gotten a clear answer as to whether Vida or RCI make the assignments as to which week you will get assigned for deposit, but suspect it's RCI since the bulk deposit is already on their books. So, award status aside, probably the biggest effect on the TPUs received are demand for the location and time for the week you were assigned.
