Has anyone had any experience staying in a 1 BR Island View unit?

Yes.
Remember every 1Br OV is basically the same inside. The IV units have an extra set of doors to the lanai, these were installed to cut down on noise. Works well. Go for 3rd level to see past some trees (golf course view). View strait down is valet parking slots at front or arrival end, changing to Equipment storage. . .
Not the best but you’ll be here

I used to get ocean view and now with the exces points chasing the high demand properties and the ocean fronts are almost 2x of a island or garden view, I just accept an IV or GV. We do not spend much time on the lanai and tended to watch sunsets from the grass/beach ( martinis/G&T from a hydroflask work well) . The units are the same and love the kitchen and washer dryer so not moving to the older towers. Will be there in late Nov in a 2 bdrm island view - asked for high floor we will see what happens. I will report how the view is at that time.

Yes. We owned one and recently gave to daughter. There is noise from huge AC unit so they put glass on outside of tiny balcony. If closed it's silent inside. You may get a decent golf course view, maybe a view of Machinery and delivery traffic. Not a view for hanging around with drinks. I went out every AM with coffee and phone though. I've had worse. Every other aspect is great, just don't count on a fantastic view or quiet on lanai.
