Looking at a trade next year to Maui with Trading Places and most of their units in Maui are at these 2 resorts. I know the location is on different sides of the island. I was wondering in terms of unit amenities, pools, size, cleanliness is one of the resorts superior to the other.
In the past year and a half we have stayed at both. I thought they were very similar in quality as far as rooms, landscaping and pool area. I would go back to either. In fact, we have another reservation for Kahana Falls in September. Our decision to select KF was solely because we wanted to be in this area of Maui this time. Maui Schooner is on the ocean side of the road where Kahana Falls is across the street if that matters.
Both had fairly high fees (in addition to taxes) for utilities or something like that.
I don't think you could go wrong selecting either.
Edit: Pool at Kahana Falls was very cold with almost no one going in when we were there. Don't know if their pool is usually that cold.
Last November we spent 2 weeks at Maui Schooner and 2 weeks at Sands of Kahana, across the street from Kahana Falls.
Both areas have their advantages, but I liked Kihei better because it is more central to various parts of the island, whereas in Kahana you are at the tip of the island and further away from things. Maui Schooner is low rise while Kahana Falls is a condo tower, which we like less.
Just finished a bonus trade week at Kahana Falls. Sterling, you are correct, Maui Schooner is cleaner. Kahana is clean but the Schooner has that extra shine.
Plus the queen bed(they only have queens) in the KF one bedroom unit needed the box springs replaced, made terrible noise, I slept on the sofa. Just so much noise when your spouse turned. I guess I should have insisted on a new box springs.
I love having kings beds in all the master rooms at the Schooner, both the 2 BR and 1 BR. And like Sterling said, we just finished a major reno and new furniture.
Sometimes staying on the West side is nice for a change but we only do that if we can't get a Schooner room when we have a bonus week that needs to be used.
KF energy charge is more. but they have daily towel exchange and midweek clean and linen change which the Schooner doesn't.

Went to KF several years ago two different times. Once with our kids, once without. Less to do and had to drive more but felt more upscale at least at the time. Would not hesitate to go again.
Not the same at Schooner. We went there with my 23 year old son and his girlfriend. The unit we had felt like it lacked privacy and you couldn't even make coffee in the unit without waking others up. The unit was a two bedroom with the master being more like a loft.
Never again.

ICC5, sorry you were unhappy with your unit at the Schooner. Noise from the living room and the kitchen do carry up to the loft.
Just so folks will know not all the 2 BRs are lofts. Only the third floor of B building have the Master bedroom as a loft room.
A Building and the 2 BRs in B building on 1st and 2nd floor are on one level with private rooms for the master and second bedroom.

We do like the Schooner side of the island best so maybe will have to give it another try. We have only been in that type of unit once before and that was in Sun River, Oregon when it was just my wife and me. It worked fine then because of it just being the two of us.

Yes, but KF has nearby Ka'anapali Beach and Lahaina. I like both resorts but I much prefer the area north of Lahaina. The pool at MS is a big plus because it is heated. TPI has very few MS units (last time I looked) but 100s of KF units. You may not have a choice.
Sterling, why the dearth of MS units via TPI? In years past they had many, many units all the time. Now, pretty scarce.

I'm just guessing but perhaps the dearth of available units is because of all the upgrades and the fact the economy is finally improving and folks have more money. There is at lot of windsurfing at the area next to the Schooner and Kama'ole I, II, and III beach parks with beautiful white sand, picnic tables, lifeguards, and all the amenities are just a couple miles away. Swimming and bodysurfing are good.
Remember Mopeds are more dangerous that sharks. :hysterical:
It might be done. Friends were there May 10-24. Elevator work was in progress. They stayed on 2nd floor of A building. Third & fourth floors were closed down until the work was complete.
Don't know what is the planned time frame for completion.
We were at Kahana Falls last week of April. The elevator went out in the building next to the road. Staff was busy moving folks who were unable to walk up the stairs. Staff was afraid it would be a while before it was up & running.
