Maui planning to implement post arrival covid test

Man, I hope they get that Covid passport thing going. I wonder if the vaccination protects a person from testing positive ?

Bill

I’ve been on Maui for almost a week. All the cases they are reporting on local news are among locals/residents from family units, gatherings, youth sports, etc. I’m at a loss to understand how or why they believe adding an arrival test for everyone flying in from the mainland is of any use. I can see it if applied only to those that were not pre-flight tested or those that are not vacationers. But if not pre-tested you’re required to quarantine anyway.

It‘s almost as if they are looking for a way to reduce or slow the recovery of tourism in MauI.

No it does not, because the authorized vaccines are 75-90% effective, not 100% effective.

The vaccines don’t cause someone to test positive, but, as stated above, they are “only” about 90% effective at preventing infection. 90% is exceptionally good, of course, but not 100%. All of the “breakthrough“ cases we hear about are just that... the 10% manifesting. But, as more and more are vaccinated there is less and less infection in the community, meaning the chances of becoming infected go down. If you are fully vaccinated AND practice reasonable mitigation, chances of testing positive are very small. But not zero.
