I may rent a 2br 2bath oceanview unit in the Lahaina building. I looked at a lot of pictures of the units but very little in the way of the views. It appeared that the views would be more of a mountain view or pool view by the layout of the units in the building to the beach. It also looked like some of the units were right next to the garage. Is the building that close to the garage that you may be looking at the structure? It is hard to tell. Can anyone give me any pro's & cons of an oceanview unit in this building? I believe the unit is a floating week/unit so when renting from an owner I assume there is no guarantee of unit or floor. Is this correct. Thanks

From this brochure, it would appear that you wouldn't necessarily see the ocean from inside your unit, but you certainly would from the lanai.

yes it does appear that way. That is one of the pictures I based my questions on. The pool side unit looks like you get a great view of the garage.

Actually, the Oceanview units in Lahaina Tower all have excellent views of the ocean. I would not hesitate to stay in one and a good view of the ocean is very important to us. Even some of the mountain view units can see some water.

I've stayed in a couple of those ocean view units, if I recall it was 4th and 5th floor. The one right next to the garage didn't have a direct ocean view (then it would be ocean front) but it wasn't bad. As long as you looked toward the ocean, it was a very pleasant view. If you looked towards the garage, not so much.

It's a beautiful property and I'd be very happy in one of those units next time. Just try to get a high floor and you'll be fine

If you can at all swing it, try to find an ocean front. We were high in the 2 bedroom part of a 3bd lockoff recently and it was the best view we've ever had.

Since you are renting from an owner you stand a better chance of receiving a nice OV unit than is you rented from Marriott, unless you're platinum. And if the owner is a multi-week owner you could end up getting a great OV room.

When I rented my Maui weeks this year I requested a 6th floor or higher for my OV renters and my requests were honored.

Of course, the views from the 3BR units are the best of the best--the nicest ocean front views I have ever seen. Because they are on corners of the two buildings, you get an ocean front panorama in two directions.

We even had a nice view from a 3 BR lock-off unit and we were on the third floor so not even that high up.

I do have some on this web page here and the next picture here but they are only the fixed week/units only but you can figure out from here what the other numbers are because of the picture that was posted earlier already.

PS. The 3 BR lock-off unit also has a nice view on the pool during the day as well as at night.

actually, our 2bd lockoff was rented from Marriott, DH is not platinum but gold

we also had a OF in the older section and were on the 5th floor, so Marriott renters don't always get the shaft

I wasn't suggesting Marriott renters get the "shaft", just that there is an order of priority that they fill requests, like multi-week owners staying consecutive weeks and so on down to a non-Marriott exchanger who would be low man on the totem pole. Right above the exchanger would be non-status renter I would think. Above the renter should be a single week owner.

Besides the views the 3 BR units are very light because of the extra windows. We saw the model units and noticed the big difference with the 2 BR units but they are nice too and our view is also spectacular as you can see here and the next few pictures. When we stepped in our oceanfront unit the very first time, we were very happy. :)

I also posted pictures of some of the views of the oceanfront units of the Napili tower starting here and from unit #5301 (see the two earlier pictures too because this condo looks also at a building) and #4313 that has a much better view.

The Napili tower has a wider beach but the Lahaina tower is closer to the ocean so we can hear the surf day and night and it is very relaxing. We love it so spend a lot of time in the condo rather than at the pool. I could live here 365 days of the year. ;)

If we only could make our week last two weeks, we would be delighted! I am hoping and waiting for next year. We deposited over 14 months out and didn't do a request first this time. I know that we can use points but then we have to give up the whole condo unit and we will never do this for our home resort because of the big skim. :(

What I've always wondered was who gets priority, renter who let's say paid for OV unit or Marriott OV owner trading back in or Marriott owner from different resort.

Of those cases, I would guess renter.

I was expecting to be behind tree leaves based on your theory of room assignment, which is good because I always prefer to have expectations exceeded. We definitely got lucky.

I can't remember how many of the Lahaina tower OF units are fixed. I wonder if the only two bedrooms Marriott is renting now are the ones that can't be made smaller for more revenue. There would have had to be a handful of exchangers in those units to get the height we had, and this was March.

Thanks for all of the replies. Since I am not familiar with the resort at all I got the impression that the garage was over bearing with regards to the location of the 2br OV units and it scared me. I will go on the assumption that any of the 2 br OV units located next to the garage will better than sitting in my living at home and I am sure I will enjoy it.

If you end up in a yellow colored unit on the picture of the brochure that was shown below, you should have an ocean view from the window and the balcony.

I took a picture of the top floor of the parking structure and you still see a good partial ocean view. The unit color is green but the higher, the better. It is in my album here.

Ready already, here are the fixed units of the Lahaina and Napili towers on the same page.
