We have never been to maui. we are going in july 2008. staying in kahana at sands of kahana. Question is. Is it safe to bicycle on maui? not a tour just private leisurely bicycle riding from point a to b. would we be able to bike from sands of kahana to kaanapali? or to lahaina? hoping to not have to take a car everywhere we go. is the roads good between kahana and kaanapali? thanks in advance for any info.

sorry i did not notice the previous post about maui bike rides!! but since mine is a different question please forgive me!

The problem is that you would have to ride on highway 30 and I don't even know if bikes are allowed. I wouldn't do it, even if it was legal, because this area has very heavy traffic and I don't think it would be safe. Plus it's over 7 miles from your resort to Lahaina - mapquest
And probably 3.5 to Ka'anapali - but all of it is a very busy stretch of highway.
