We went to Smugglers Notch last summer and had a great time. I'm thinking Massanutten could be similar? It's only 2 hours from us, but we've never gone b/c that doesn't feel like a vacation to us. But, with Covid, this might be our Aug. trip instead of WDW. Who's been in the summer? What outside things are there to do for 2 b/g older teens? Seems kinda hot in Aug. to hike. Is it cooler there b/c it's in the mountains? Looks like most things are open? Are the pools open? Can you go to any pool? Does it cost $? We're not getting that Massanutten card. We'll book a week and stay maybe 4 days.

I am a Massanutten RCI Points owner (never been in the Summer) and unfortunately have not made it to Smugglers Notch, but would like to sometime.

I am thinking about a late summer trip to Massanutten this summer as well, but haven't decided yet. They appear to be taking the virus seriously and have posted considerable information on their website in a dedicated section. They also have a quite helpful current hours page that lists what is open for what hours. Looks like many outdoor activities and pools as well as indoor pools are now open. I DO NOT have the gumption to do indoor pools yet, and would love to hear a report on how outdoor pools and other activities look at this point.

The resort fee includes access to indoor and outdoor pools. It does not include the indoor/outdoor water park (closed, and not interest in going to it in the current situation). There are also moderate fees for things at the family entertainment center.

Hiking will be hot unless it is a cooler day. As a rule of thumb, the higher elevations in Shenendoah National Park (a not too far drive) are about 15 degrees cooler than in the DC area. The higher trails in Massanutten may be a little cooler than in the DC area, but are likely to still be hot and sticky this time of year. (I do a fair amount of hiking in the area in all seasons.)

I hope some people who have been to Massanutten in the last couple of weeks will post. I heard on TUG early in the reopening that resort fees were discounted 50%, but I will not be counting on that still being the case.

Regal Vistas, Summit, or Mountainside developments would be ideal for not running into very many people when entering the unit .... Woodstone will be easier to book and hopefully not be too crowded in the common areas/elevators.

thanks. I didn't realize Woodstone had common areas.

We were there from June 19th to the 26th. Weather was in the mid 80s and comfortable. The forecast showed scattered thunderstorms most days, but it only rained two or three hours during the day, and one time it rained overnight. The pools were closed except for lap swimming and exercise classes, but we could live with that. There are lounge chairs behind the Rec Center, so when we wanted to lay in the sun, we went there for a while, then went up on
the second floor covered porch when we needed some shade. With occupancy at about 50% it was easy to get into onsite restaurants, and Woodstone has grills and picnic tables next to each building, so we cooked out some. We wanted a low key vacation and enjoyed our stay.
