Would someone please help us out with info about Massanutten resort. We'd like to visit there but are quite confused about which resort name to choose. There are a couple of ones called Eagle this or that, then there is the Summit which in itself has several areas of condos. Also weather... We don't want a cold time, we don't do winter sports...we don't want to be in roasting humid heat. We are a retired couple who would like to visit at a pleasant temperature time of year when we could hike around some nearby parks, see local scenery etc. thanks.

I would think that for what you are looking for the best time would be mid to late September or very early October. May would probably be good too but sometimes it can be a bit rainy or early hot.

The nicest units are Regal Vistas. Although not all the units have great views. But some are very nice. Going anytime other than summer and week 51 and 52, the whole resort is going to be only 30-75% booked. So if you end up somewhere that you don't like, within that section you could probably ask and more to a different unit.

The next level down would be Woodstone and Summit. Summit has better view but more stairs and hills. Mountainside would probably be the next down although in a 2 br probably more open and spacious. Not that Summit and Woodstone are cramped, they just made odd layout choices. Mountainside is more like a cabin in the woods vs an apartment/condo either on a mountain (Summit) or overlooking golf and parking lot (Woodstone). The next level would be Shenandoah which I didn't like mainly because it was the first place I stayed in and I had a unit with about 40 stairs to get to the front door up a hill and then one bedroom was up a full flight of stairs and the other bedroom was down a flight of stairs with the living room, kitchen, and dining room on the level of the front door. Eagle Trace would be next and the lowest would be Eagle Trace at Killy Courts and the hotels which I hear are awful.

We stayed in the summit units on left side of Lition lane, when they were brand new and some still under construction. The views from the unit was spectacular. We had the upstair unit with full kitchen unit number 216 U in 2002, you got a nice view of the "bowl" area and not to high up the mountain. We did have to use car to get around but that is true for most of Mass-o-nutten.

Another unit we did was Mountainside Villa.. yes there are stairs but around back was mostly flat and there was a road behind the unit to load in and out.
They are large older, 1982?, units in good condition on the golf course most of the time. The deer would come up on the deck to get bread bit we left out. They had a hugh stone fireplace which had been converted to elec that looked somewhat real and blew out heat.

Woodstone in upper unit was nice and right on the golf course.. Close to the big pool complex and easier to get in and out of vs going through gate and up gap to original side of mountain.

toured the eagle crest? unit and was not impressed.

It is a beautiful resort with many sections. My favorite is Mountainside, which is older. What we like is the private sauna and huge hot tub/jacuzzi in each unit.

We have also stayed at both Summit and Woodstone. We stayed at Woodstone when they were pretty new. This section is on more level ground at the base of the mountain and near the newer water park facilities.

We like going up the mountain because the views are spectacular. It is definitely an "up or down the mountain" choice.

Overall a great resort, usually with good availability. The fall is quieter, good weather, and great foliage viewing.
