I have been to Massanutten resort on a few occasions in the past. I just noticed on various websites that the different resorts are listed under different cities: McGaheysville, VA, Massanutten, VA, and sometimes Harrisonburg, VA.

I realize that there are various sections of Massanutten, but are they actually in different cities/counties?

thanks,

Harrisonburg is the closest larger town. I think it is about 10 miles to west of Massanutten. McGaheysville is the post office zip code for the resort. Massanutten itself could be considered a town itself but is more like a private subdivision. I believe it pays for and maintains its own roads, provides for the trash pickup and has its own security/police force. It does not maintain schools or a post office.

The closest airport to me is Thurgood Marshall BWI. When you check the official postal address it is listed as Baltimore, 21240 . In reality it isn't in Baltimore City or even Baltimore County. It is in the adjacent Anne Arundel County. Looking on a Map it is between the communities of Ferndale and Hanover. I think it is technically considered in Hanover. If you list the correct street and office and zip regardless if you use Baltimore, Ferndale or Hanover it would make it to the airport.

The various resorts at Massanutten (the resort area) are in McGaheysville, VA (the official city name) in Rockingham County, VA.

Massanutten is often used as a "Vanity City Name". Vanity City names are often deemed valid and deliverable by USPS.

Harrisonburg is the nearest "big city."

Massantutten is a private subdivision located some where in the mountains in Virginia.

Thanks for the replies

I see that this is a zip code situation. I completely understand since I have lived in a city that uses another city's zip code and post office. I did not know about the vanity town designation, but it makes sense considering how large Massanutten Resort is.

thanks
