We are staying at Marriott's Manor Club over Thanksgiving - traded in with Destination Club Points. We got the usual e-mail asking if we have any room preferences. As we have never been to this resort, does anyone have any suggestions on the best room locations? It mentions proximity to club house, woods view, floor, etc. I would guess that being close to the club house is a nice benefit - especially if it is cold. Is a woods view the recommended view type? And, on this property, does the floor make much difference -other than a top floor means no neighbors above you. Thanks.

If MMC ask for a high floor with a golf course view. I'd select Berkeley, Chesapeake, or Governors Manors if you want to be near the main building (I recommend this). If you want to be away from everything (quiet) ask for Jefferson, Independence, or Patrick Henry. Berkeley was originally supposed to be sold as condos, but Marriott bought the building from Ford's Colony and converted it to fractional shares. The units are much larger especially the kitchens. They are like real condos/apartments and not crammed together. Some units have a separate dining area. Some have a third bedroom/loft. Ask for a third floor unit in Berkeley. Those are usually reserved for owners using their week who originally bought units in Berkeley.

If MSE all buildings are pretty much the same and none is better than the other in terms of view. Ask for a third floor unit at the end of the hallway to avoid noise and foot traffic. These buildings are three story with long hallways with all of the units on either side. Only the end of the hall units can see the golf course, and the views aren't much to write home about.

Thanks for the great advice. It says Marriott's Manor Club - so I assume that is MMC.

We will try for one of the buildings you suggest nearest to the clubhouse - since it may be cold, this might be a good option. And we will request golf course view. It is funny because that view type wasn't even used as an example in their form.

I know we will be down in the pecking order since we don't own there. Sometimes I think the Platinum status we have with Marriott and Premier with Destination Club doesn't hurt if it is a time when there aren't a lot of owners. But I would imagine Thanksgiving is a popular time in Williamsburg.

Thanks again!

We traded in last summer via II as a non-Marriott owner, and I asked for and received a unit in Berkeley. We had a great second floor room looking out at the tee box of the golf course.

The mvci destination points chart doesn't distinguish between the original section and the sequel. If you have a 1 br or studio you will be in the sequel. If you reserved a 2 br you could be in either and should be able to request either. The main pro about the sequel is the lock off units which you may want if you need additional privacy. Other than that the original section definitely seems to be the way to go.

We were there at the end of April and stayed in the Patrick Henry Bldg. We were on the NW end, second floor. I've attached a copy of the view from our balcony. We chose the second floor because, in April, the tree line would have been level with the third floor.

Note: not all the bldgs face in the same direction and there are units on all four sides of each bldg. Many units have views of the parking lots, so you need to look at the resort map in order to determine the bldg and then the view.

Great point. This is why you need to ask for a golf course view. Also most of the end units overlook either the courtyard or parking lot.

I don't know that you will have an issue getting a unit that you want. Thanksgiving is a great time to visit Williamsburg because of the weather and things going on in Colonial Williamsburg, but it isn't really that busy other than the weekend. Also, most people never even request a unit or even know what to ask for. That's why TUG is great. We have access to a ton of inside information that others don't know.

With the exception of the Berkley bldg., the other bldgs. on the original side are basically the same shape.

I've attached a photo of the floor plan for the Patrick Henry bldg, from the fire escape chart by the door.

Here is a map of the property. Notice that the shape that NKN posted is correct except for Berkeley (and Governors has doors that go through both ends), but they are oriented differently as another poster mentioned.

We are here now. We are in the Berkeley building. We are on the 2nd floor but on the end where there are no rooms above us. We requested a quiet area. Our room is beautiful. We are very pleased. We stayed here two years ago in the "Sequel" section. Our room was pretty awful. I wouldn't have even selected this resort again had it not been for the positive reviews about the original section and this building.

We have stayed a total of five weeks at MMC over the past three years on II trades or getaways or XYZs. We have requested and received Berkeley every time, all but one time on the top (third) floor with a loft villa. We have stayed in some pretty nice units in the MVCI system over the years (we have stayed at 20 MVCI resorts) and we own at some top tier MVCI resorts. Having said all that, I believe that Kauai Lagoons is the only resort with nicer villas than the Berkeley villas at MMC.

The Sequel was all refurbished last winter. The units are as nice or nicer than the original ones now. The buildings leave a lot to desire as do the views. I'll take the original side every time if I can.

The Sequel are all updated now; but the original building's are nicer and larger .
