Please give suggestions for nice Marriott's in London for our 50th. We'll be going next June. 3 nights after we land so 2 days of touring before we move on. I'm thinking of getting one of those London taxi tours. Rick Steves suggests just taking a day to walk around. So location would have to take that into consideration. My other option is to book Rick Steves favorite hotel.

Marriott’s County Hall is a great location. We had a wonderful stay there several years ago. Easy walk to just about everything.

What kind of room/view did they give you? Did you pay cash or use points? Could you walk to Hyde Park? Did you look at the St. Ermin's Hotel?

It's the most expensive using points.

We stayed at St Ermin‘s a few years ago and enjoyed it. It was in a good location and had a great breakfast. I am Titanium, so it was complimentary.

Best regards.

I'm trying to book with points. Did you use points? Did they give you upgrade? Were you able to get king bed? We're both Lifetime Titanium.

The first time I logged in tonight I saw points options on most of the hotels. I then logged in using DH's account and point options were gone so I went back to my account. Point options disappeared there too. :crash:

We stayed at County Hall a few years ago. We are titanium lifetime and were upgraded to a beautiful junior suite overlooking the ferris wheel and Big Ben. They had a really nice concierge lounge, too.
We have also stayed at a few others in the past, but the County Hall would be my choice from now on.

Keep checking for a points reservation. They seem to come & go.
I've stayed at 3 Marriott properties in London & would recommend all 3. I also have lifetime titanium status.

St. Ermin's - close to Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace & underground (St. James Park station, District & Circle lines). Standard rooms are very small & there isn't a concierge's lounge. They do offer breakfast in the restaurant to titanium members. I stayed there before it was a Marriott property so I didn't get an upgrade or breakfast.

JW Marriott Grovsvenor House - across the street from Hyde Park, fairly large concierge's lounge with lots of seating (it was usually pretty crowded during my stay in May 2022), rooms are nice & some have a nice view. I used the Hyde Park underground station.

Sheraton Grand London Park Lane - right across the street from Green Park and walking distance to many of the sights. Equal distance to Hyde Park & Green Park stations (Piccadilly Line). Rooms are nice & we overlooked Green Park. Very good breakfast in a restaurant on the main floor (free as a welcome gift). Concierge Lounge also served breakfast, tea & light meal in the evening.

I don’t recall that we were upgraded, but I believe we did have a king bed.

Overall St. Ermin's is our favorite London Marriott hotel for its combination of service, location, and charm. There is no lounge, but Platinum and above do receive a yummy free breakfast in the restaurant (which also serves a wonderful afternoon tea). We are Titanium and were upgraded on a Bonvoy points reservation a few years ago. St. Ermin's is also available using MVC points through the destinations exchange program (probably not worth it unless you find yourself with a bunch in holding).

That said, I have an upcoming reservation for this summer at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane for a stay that we absolutely, positively needed a lounge. I am told that it is open 24 hours a day and has wonderful breakfasts, afternoon tea, and evening snacks.

If for some reason you need one, 47 Park St offers very nice 2BRs suites which are otherwise hard to find and/or extraordinarily expensive in London. While the staff was lovely, there are no hotel services. We've stayed using both MVC points and 'cash'.

I have heard wonderful things about County Hall...but we have never stayed there. Walked by it a lot though...testament to its great location. On the other hand, we dislike the location of the JW Grovsvenor...YMMV.

County Hall or St Ermin's would be my choices.
We've stayed at County Hall 3 times and Grosvenor Square once.
For walking to most attractions St. Ermin's might be closer, but the ability to be across the Thames River looking at Big Ben
and seeing it lit up at night, and hearing the chimes, would be a huge factor making County Hall a VERY memorable experience.

While there, consider a day trip via Eurostar to see Paris.....it's one amazing day, and you see and do much more than you imagine.
Simply riding thru the English and French countryside was awesome, and going under the chunnel was cool.
We were in the Louvre for at least 2-3 hours and still had ample time to walk the Champs-Elysees, walk to Arc de Triomphe, walk along the Seine,
take a wonderful city bus tour, and to have a nice lunch. A great day.
(Happy Anniversary Suzzanne!!!)

Aside from the usual must-do's like walking to Trafalgar Sq, Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery museum, St James Park, Buckingham Palace, etc, etc,
another fun activity which involves a nice walk along the Thames is visiting one of my favorites-----The Sherlock Holmes Pub----across the Westminster Bridge
if staying at County Hall, then take a RIGHT and walk along the river for a few blocks, then left a couple of blocks, and a right---------near the end of the
Thames stroll, take a "cut-through" left and pass thru a small garden to cut the corner-----very beautiful, and shown in my map below....
The entire walk is very close from both County Hall & St. Ermin's, and quite a pleasant stroll.
SHP is a great pub, and one of the more memorable ones.

We stayed at St Ermin's about 5 years ago and liked it. We had a standard hotel room. The bathroom was small. We were only Gold status at the time, but there was a mixup/mistake on reservation on Marriott's end so they gave us free breakfast. The breakfast buffet was quite nice.

There's a metro station on the backside of the hotel which was pretty convenient once we figured out which station exit to use, and the backdoor hotel exit.

We booked a standard room via points at County Hall, and were upgraded due to status to a nice sized King bed room with a view of the River Thames, London Eye and Big Ben.

Walking distance to Hyde Park would be less than 2 miles.

I stayed at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane in late January this year. The lounge was not open 24 hours a day. I think it closed at 10:00 PM & opened at 6:30 AM.

As in they were no longer serving beverages or you weren't allowed to sit there? One of the reviews I read spoke of being able to use the lounge into the wee hours.

Thank you everyone for your input.

I've reserved 2 nights at St. Ermin's. We like smaller boutique type hotels. Not bothered by the lack of a lounge as we want to experience other restaurants. It was a points saver reservation and we've requested upgrade using the suite upgrades in our account.

Only 2 nights as London isn't the focus of this trip. It's the countryside we're going to explore. The current itinerary is 3 nights Cotswolds, 5 nights Cornwall, 3 weeks at a beautiful homestead in the Hereford area where we're looking forward to relaxing like a local, kayaking the River Wye and getting to Brecon Beacons, 3 nights Llangollen for music festival and canal boats, 3 nights Snowdonia region, ferry to and 2 nights Dublin.

We've been to London on previous trip and took the Eurostar to Paris. That was back when the Champs Elysee Marriott was a Category 6 and we had 7 nights. We've also been to Dublin and stayed at the Powerscourt on a 7 night certificate.

Excellent itinerary........and I think you'll love St Ermin's. Nice location.
You'll have a blast, especially your time outside of London in the countryside. Having done that countryside focus, too, I'm very jealous as we have wonderful memories.
BTW, we took our two children with us on this trip to UK, ages 11 & 14 at the time. What a wonderful time they had, and saw and learned so much.

While London is an amazing city full of wonderful and historic attractions which are all must-do's, the countryside memories are what always come to mind
when I reminisce about UK...... We were fortunate to be in UK a total of 17 nights. We "almost" left with a British accent, lol.
While in London a week at County Hall we explored London thoroughly and saw a multitude of attractions, but also
took several out-trips by train----to Windsor Castle, Leeds Castle, Warwick Castle, and more. So much fun.

We then "hired a car" from London for our following week "in the countryside" and were able to relax a bit.......
That said, we also used that location as our hub for several driving excursions......
We stayed in central England (in Barton Under Needwood), at Wychnor Park Country Club....a trade obtained thru Interval.
It was a wonderful old estate with a rich history. Very nice and large, and very comfortable. We loved it. (see photo and link to pics below)

One excursion was a wonderful (and long) day driving thru the Cotswolds....stayed a few hours in several towns.
It was one of our favorite destinations anywhere, as we were there in June and the gardens were amazing. Charming beyond belief.
We adored Stow-on-the Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Burford, Bibury, Cirencester-----then we took a scenic swing and worked our way back north
to our home at Wychnor Park Country Club.
1688214120752.png

We had a separate full day traveling to Stratford upon Avon, and saw the whole town which was lovely. Visited Shakespeare's home and also walked for hours
exploring several attractions, and "made up" our own tour of the town, including the old church and cemetery along the river. Beautiful.
Had a great lunch at a local pub----it was a memory too.

Anyway, Suzzanne, I'll look forward to hearing all about your amazing anniversary trip. Stay safe and enjoy!

The last time we were in London was 2019, but we’ve been lucky to have visited many times. Our favorite Marriott is Grosvenor.

It’s a large city so definitely plan ahead for what you want to see with limited time. We bought show tickets ahead of time if that’s your thing.

We used Uber and the Underground while in London proper and had no problems.

Have a wonderful trip.
