Which is the better experience.Teenagers will be joining us.Marriott's BeachPlace Towers or Marriott's Ocean Pointe?

Beachplace vs Ocean pointe

Have a few questions.
Do you want a city feel or a suburban feel ?
Do yo want to walk out the door to the beach , or cross the street to get to beach ?
Do you want night life near by ?
Do you want like to sit by the pool ?

I ask because Beachplace is a city style timeshare vs OP

My family would rather go to OP than Beachplace because of the beach and pools.

I own at Beachplace and have been to OP and there is a huge difference IMO. It is quite remote where youll need a car and very low key .. Not much going on after 8 pm. BP on the other hand is just starting up at 8 pm with the bars below cranking up..as it's an urban location where you might not even need a car. I do think teens would prefer it but keep a watch on them...the area is safe but they may want to go bar hopping and I don't know if the legal drinking age is 18 or 21 in FL. Either way they are very nice resorts and OP is a little harder to get.

I have been to both resorts and it all depends on what you are looking for. The Ocean Pointe is a more laid back resort with not that much in the immediate area to do. In addition, the area just accross the bridge, Rivera Beach, is not one of the best areas. If you are driving to the resort, I would suggest taking PGA Blvd and not Blue Heron Blvd. When I went in February, I found most of the people staying there were seniors. However, in the summer it may be a different crowd with more younger people

The BeachPlace Towers is located in a very busy beach area with a number of new hotels and condos. You will have easy access to water taxis and be within walking distance to numerous restaurants, night clubs, beach, and shopping. There is a short 2 minute walk to the water taxi pick up and you can use the water taxi to take you to the downtown area and other shopping districts. The water taxi cost $15 per adult and $11 per youth for an all day pass. In addition, they have a family all day pass for $48.

IMHO, Ocean Pointe is all about the beach, ocean and pools. From what I've read Beachplace is more about the city. Beachplaces pool is small, you have to walk across the street to get to the beach and they charge what I consider an outragous price for non-owners to park a car.

Since I sometimes like a city environment I plan on staying at Beachplace eventually. But I don't require the pool and I only use the beach for early AM walks. We enjoy eating out and shopping so there is some attraction for us at Beachplace, even if my wife doesn't think so (she's been wrong before. Told me she HATED Florida before we visted MPB, then wanted to own there. )

So I guess it's all in what you family enjoys most. Beach/pool fun or city life. You can get both at either location but, each one has it's own bent towards one or the other.

I agree the parking situation is not great. In addition, the pool is very small and located on the second floor of the building. If you are going to enjoy the pool and the resorts fascilities, I would say the Ocean Pointe is better. However, as far as things to do other than at the resort, the BeachPlace Towers location in Ft. Lauderdale is better. There are cruises available in Ft. Lauderdale to all different destinations from the Bahamas to the Caribbean. In addition, it is a short 30 to 40 minute drive to South Beach should you want to check out that area.

Legal drinking age is 21 in FL.

BP is much more active and more of a teenagers' idea of action. This area is relatively clean of tattoo parlors, strip clubs, video game parlors or panhandlers. However, if out early in the AM for beach walking, there will be some people sleeping on the beach or using the 'shower off the sand' stands to wash themselves. Yes, the live music starts around 4PM for the off the beach crowd with outdoor tables, chairs, and wait-service - think USA show "Burn Notice". Not cheap, but many people just sit on the beach wall and watch the action. And the action continues to around 2PM. Night crowd comes out starting at 9-10PM.

I have had 18 yo CA niece loving that area, 16 yo MD nephew was awe-struck, and 9 yo MD nephew wanting to know why the guy was getting his clothes wet at the shower. My other 13 yo MD nephew told his parents he was going to college in FL.

By the way, the Elbo Room Bar is still open - rent the 1960s movie "Where the Boys Are" (Connie Francis, George Hamilton). That is where my older NJ college brother took me (with fake ID) for Spring Break 1971. Many of the motels in that movie are timeshares now. I used real my college ID to keep him out of jail.

Thanks all.It sounds like Beachplace is probably the better place with my bigger teens. You can't keep them still.

1 bedroom. Me and my 10 year old. We want the best beach and the nicest room/property. (I'm only comparing OP vs Hollywood Beach)

Ocean Pointe hands down. Great property for kids and a great beach.

Perfect. I met a guy this weekend who swore by Hollywood beach and the pictures suggest OP has a dirty beach, but if you think it has a better beach, then perfect!

Up until now, Ft. Lauderdale has been the best beach I know in FL. (I grew up in Orlando).

All 3 beaches are great…the beach in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood are very close in size and water clarity..and the water depth slopes slightly as you wade out..I would rate them equal..we were at Ocean Pointe a month ago and the beach there is also clear and very nice…although theres a faster drop off in water depth at Ocean Pointe…IMO..I would opt for BeachPlace.

For me the tiebreaker is the resort itself - OP is designed for kids/families.

I must agree with the above posts, hand down OP.
I feel the 10 years will have other kids to associate with and much more onsite activities at OP to enjoy. IMHO.

Yeah, see, those are the issues....temperature, clarity, slope. But it's also true that that's not the only variable. Based on this, I'll book at OP and visit Hollywood's beach...and report back!!!

Certainly not a bad choice..when we stay at Beachplace every January we always take the water taxi down to Margaritaville in Hollywood and stay overnight on my wife’s birthday..the teens will love the flowrider surf and body boarding machine at Margaritaville…its a one of a kind experience.

This is a very old thread. :)

We loved Ocean Pointe. I would take a unit there any time of year.
