I have a chance to get a 1BR unit at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club - Molokai, Maui and Lahaina Towers using Club Points. I am unclear if these units have an in-room washer and drier. The pictures also seem to show a mini fridge. Are these the hotel conversion units? The pictures I see in the MVC web site look similar between the two property names listed under Marriott's Maui Ocean Club.

I would like something similar to KOR/KORN with a washer and drier in the room and full-size refrigerator. Has anybody stayed at both and can compare? The site to reserve with Club Points mentions
Marriott's Maui Ocean Club and Marriott's Maui Ocean Club - Molokai, Maui and Lahaina Towers.

Yes - all of the Molokai, Maui and Lahaina Tower are converted hotel rooms: no stove top or oven. I don't believe they have ensuite washer/dryers. The Westin one bedrooms have full kitchens and stacked washer/dryers.

At the Marriott: Laundry room at the bottom of one of the towers. Free to use, laundry detergent provided. Communal kitchen also on the first floor of one of the towers. Not as convenient as a Westin one bedroom of course, but it's something. I like the location of the Westins better

Thanks. I ended up finding a Westin unit. I prefer that location over the Marriott too.

There are dishes, cutlery & glasses to use in the microwave. For sanitation reasons, I'm sure the resort would prefer that they are washed in a dishwasher.

I guess it's a personal choice. As an avid hater of dish washers I'd rather save the water and electricity. The next guest should be perfectly capable of hand washing them if they wish.

That's funny. A dishwasher but nothing really to create a need for it.
Not true, there is a community kitchen and many families prepare meals there and then eat them in their room, with the provided dishes, silverware, etc. We used to go to Maui with a big extended family group and those little dishwashers were kept busy.

Personally, I don't want to eat off dishes that some unknown person washes by hand - or doesn't wash and just wipes and sticks back in the cupboard. Plus, what does the housekeeper do when they find a sink full of dirty dishes after the guest leaves? A dishwasher is the logical choice.

Question: Do you (personally) hand wash all the dishes in your house? :ponder:

Modern dishwashers use less water than washing a load of dishes by hand (the trade off is that they take a lot longer to do it.). Of course, if you’re just washing a couple of items you could do it with less water by hand. But as Denise said, I would rather trust the dishwasher over some stranger's standards of hygiene.

Yes we do.

Each to their own I suppose. I personally find the idea of guests leaving a sink full of dirty dishes disgusting.

Do you fully load the dishwasher and wash everything at the start of a vacation? If not how do you know you aren't following us with our hand washed dishes.

Yes we do.
I'm not asking about your spouse or partner - I'm asking YOU, if YOU hand wash all the dishes in your home.

Good point.
When we were at a Hilton timeshare we didn’t see any dishes or glassware or cutlery. Turns out they were ALL in the dishwasher and had been cleaned so that the next person coming in would know they’ve just been cleaned.

That is actually what management wants you to do on check-out day - to load the dishwasher with whatever is dirty that day, and start it when you check-out.

I purposefully put we because we do all the dishes. Sometimes I do it and sometimes my wife does it so consequentially yes we do hand wash all the dishes. Does that satisfy YOU?

Interesting - I wondered if it was your wife doing the dishes all the time, or most of the time. What if she said, "I'm tired of doing dishes by hand and I'm going to use the dishwasher from now on." Would you go along with that, or would you start washing all of the dishes by hand yourself?

Full disclosure: At my house I fill and empty the dishwasher, and Mr. DeniseM is banned from the dishwasher, because since having a stroke, he has twice put away a dishwasher full of dirty dishes. If I were willing, he would do all of the dishwasher chores, since I do all the cooking, but I don't want to risk the possibility of him putting away dirty dishes again. Clarification: he won't wear his glasses, so he can't see very well, and his hands are calloused so he doesn't seem to notice the feeling of dirty dishes. :ponder: Yes, I am a bit particular in the kitchen...

Sounds like you and my wife are kindred spirits with regards being particular in the kitchen. In her case it's around doing the dishes by hand but if she was to change her mind I would go along with her choice, after all as I do all the cooking then doing all the dishes too would be a bit unfair. I'm pretty good that everything I use in prepping a meal is usually washed and put away before the meal is cooked. and ready to eat

Funnily enough our two daughter who are grow up and have places of their own (with dishwashers) do all their dishes by hand too, along with their respective partners. It's in the genes :giggle:
