Marriott timeshare in the Bahamas?

Marriott used to have a timeshare on Paradise Island. As far as I know, there is no Marriott, Ritz-Carlton or Grand Residence timeshare resort in the Bahamas now. Yet a supplement to the info Marriott is required to provide to the SEC states otherwise, as of June 16, 2006!

Go to this Marriott.com link and click on the MCVI link near the bottom of the page.

Can anyone explain what I am missing?

(I don't believe the explanation is related to a future timeshare, since other yet-to-open timeshare resorts - e.g., St. Kitt's and Marco Island - are not included in the list.)

Perhaps Marriott still has some ownership interest in the Paradise Island property, though it no longers carry the brand and isn't managed by Marriott?

I was told 1 1/2 years ago that MVCI had purchased land on Grand Bahama for a new resort. It is certainly not in sales yet so I can't explain why it is included on the list as of the end of Q2.

I have the same understanding. Marriott owns the GB land, but the project is stalled. Even St. Kitt's, which is in sales, is not included.

You're right: "CHEVY CHASE, Md. – April 17, 2006 – The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. and Peter de Savary, Founder of the Abaco Club, today announced a new alliance..."

Aha! Thanks, Charles and m61376!

So the list of locations should have included two asterisks after "Bahamas" and an explanation in the footnote.

Is there any real source of future building sites? I know there was a thread with a lot of speculative sites, but is there any "real" list?

The info in that thread was based on legitimate in-the-know sources. It generally matches info readily available by talking to any Marriott telesales person. It should match info available to on-site salespeople, but for some reason their info often seems to be out of the loop.

The only for-sure resorts that I know about that aren't already in sales are OP Sequel (on the site of the Crowne Plaza) and Marco Island (site of the old Radisson Hotel).

The other possible Marriott-branded properties that I'm aware of, as discussed in that other thread, are....

Grand Bahama - Marriott owns land, but the project is stalled.

Cancun - Has been discussed often by Marriott, but - so far - it hasn't worked out.

Kauai Lagoons - Likely, but nothing definite.

Puerto Vallarta - This rumor has been around for at least the last six years, with no substantiation.

Tuscany (Italy) - Probably - eventually; not imminent and not definite.

Based on internal growth projections for MVCI, I'm sure Marriott has other sites on its drawing board. But nothing has been announced.

I'd imagine there are several people here who would consider some nice pre-construction pricing like you and others enjoyed in Vegas a few years back.

dave- where is the crowne plaza located in relation to ocean pointe?

I would love the Bahama one, I loved it there!

A couple of years ago, we went the Nassau and were booked to stay at the Marriott on Cable Beach after a couple of days at Atantis. Somewhere between when we booked and when we traveled, the hotel was sold. At the same time, Marriott sold it's vacation club property there. Someone, salesrep maybe, told us that Marriott had sold it's interests there in order to develop a future property because of Bahamian law and the limits is imposes on the hotel industry. True or not, I don't know. It is just what I was told. I do know that when we looked at trading into the MVC there, we were told by the trade desk rep that we would not be happy there given the quality of the resort we were trading with.
