I am curious because I have never seen this before. I own fixed week at the Monarch and the confirmation number for 2013 is showing up on my Marriott account. I entered my 2012 confirmation and it is valid in the Marriott Hotel booking website. Goes anyone know if we get credit for night stays. I am a platinum member but business is not good in 2012 so I will have a hard tome reaching Gold. The seven night stay will get me close. Thoughts

Yes, you get credit and Yes Marriott.com is the master booking engine so all reservations will appear there.

Marriott started giving Elite Nights credit for timeshare stays two or three years ago.

Also, if you don't already have Marriott's credit card, that's good for 15 elite days each year.

I've also read that you can get 10 elite days for holding a meeting at a Marriott, and that some Marriotts will rent out a meeting room for as little as $100 for a couple hours.

Also, if you don't already have Marriott's credit card, that's good for 15 elite days each year.

You also get an additional elite night credit for every $3000 you spend on the card. Thanks to a remodeling project, I've gained several that way this year.

My husband has a Marriott premier visa card. We each have our own separate rewards account. Should we keep them separate or can they be combined? The Marriott Vacation club and Interval International is on my account. The Marriott credit card is on his account.

It really depends on how you travel. Do you always travel together? Do you earn enough elite credits to reach a higher status together than you would separately? There are pros and cons both ways.

Marriott Rewards Newby here - Stay Credit question

I am pretty ignorant on Marriott Rewards but am interested in learning if it could be of value to me. :ponder:

My wife and I enjoy timesharing since 2008. I have a 2BR Marriott Desert Springs II that I split and either use or trade for another Marriott TS. I also typically buy 3 Getaways annually for Marriott TS. We rarely stay in hotels anymore except when we're on drive vacations. On the drive vacations, we often stay in little cities like Bishop, Ca., Blythe, Ca., etc. that usually don't have Marriotts or Ritz Carltons. But I need to check to confirm that.

I am wondering about the Stay credit for staying in a Marriott timeshare for a week. When I looked at the Marriott Rewards site I saw how many points would be needed to book a free room. But I didn't see any conversion from "Stay Credits" to points. What is a week's of "Stay Credits" worth in terms of points or conversion to free Marriott hotel nights? For example, if I wanted to stay in a category 3 Marriott affilliated hotel, how many timeshare nights would I need to have on the books. Also, if I paid my annual MF with a Marriott rewards credit card (lets say it is $1000 MF), would I get a straight 1000 points? If I didn't use a credit card but used my Marriott Rewards number would I still get credit?

I apologize in advance if my questions are really stupid. I've learned and benefitted from the collective knowledge and advice available on TUG. Now it is time to learn about the benefits of a Reward account and a Rewards credit card. :ponder:

Don't worry about being confused, we all were at some point. You are asking the right questions..............I believe there is also a Marriott Insider forum that may have valuable information as well, and sometimes Marriott is discussed on Flyer Talk.

Stay credits (nights) can not be used toward free nights. Stay credits are how you achieve different tiers of elite status - the more stay credits, the higher your elite status. Indirectly stay credits can get you more points because the higher your elite status, the more points you get when you stay at a Marriott branded hotel.

I am not sure but I think 15 credits equals Silver Status (just having the card will get you that), 50 equals Gold, and 75 equals Platinum.

I would use your Marriott Rewards card to pay maintenance fees. Marriott charges get you more points than non Marriott charges. Also, your Membership Rewards number should be linked to the card - usually on the front of the card. As someone pointed out above, for every 3000 on the card - you also get a stay credit. So, a couple of Marriott maintenance fee bills should get you close.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask more questions.

Actually stay credits are just for getting to elite levels of silver, gold or platinum. They don't count for free nights, but for benefits of that level. (such as the 30 Euro breakfast buffet at Marriott Grand Flora in Rome...a nice extra benefit if Gold or Platinum level)

You would get points for paying your annual fees with the Marriott visa, I think 5 for purchases at Marriotts, or the Marriott fees, so you should get 5000, and you do have to use the Marriott visa for those.

We have had lots of benefits from the visa, and from attaching our rewards numbers to Marriott stays. It will just take a bit of reading to understand all the benefits.

It really isn't too complicated once you are aware of what you could be gaining by remembering to attach that rewards number for stays, or use the Marriott visa to gain points, as well as credit for stays every $3000 charged.

Stay credits?

So are the "stay credits" a way of achieving "elite" status but nothing else? (I'm still trying to figure out if I can get a benefit from Marriott rewards.)

Marriott rewards membership doesn't cost anything. You just register. And the "stay credits" don't translate into MR points. However, if you want to add MR points, the best way is to use the Marriott Visa, because even though it costs $95a year, you get a free Marriott hotel night every year, which is worth more than the visa annual fee.

So i suppose it just depends on whether you would use the points you acquire. They don't expire, so you have time to build up enough for a travel package to Paris, or Rome, or any place Marriott has hotels. We use them for hotels we'd never pay the high $ rate to stay, but you could also use them for everyday type travel, where the points would allow for more days of stays.

Before we found TUG, I had no idea I could do so much with our points. There really should be a thread with people just telling how they used their MR points. I learned pretty much by reading what others were doing, and by reading online at Marriot.com about the elite level offerings.

When our kids were little, I just didn't have time to do that. Now, we really have used the points for some amazing vacations, so for us, MR was worth the learning curve.

You can transfer points between husband and wife, so no real advantage from that standpoint.
Technically, you only earn points in your name, so you can not check-in and use your husbands reward account.

As for credit card, if you travel separately, then it is worth it to get separate cards.

Since I am now lifetime platinum and don't need the extra nights, I put the card in my wife's name and reward account. That way she get's credit for all the bonus nights. So the few times a year that she travels without me she is Gold.
