Marriott sheets too small for the bed...

I just stayed at Barony Beach, and while the resort is wonderful, the sheets were just too small for the bed. One corner kept coming off and we couldn't get them to stay on. (This happened on the king and the queen beds.)

I feel so sorry for the housekeepers that have to deal with this on a weekly basis. They have to spend extra time and muscle trying to fix something that can't be fixed easily, or only temporarily.

Are there other resorts where this is happening as well? Grande Vista and Cypress Harbor didn't have this problem. (Either did Hyatt Beach Club or the Holiday Inn Vacation Club Gatlinburg, where we are now.)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the fitted sheets at Barony as well as some other MVC properties. They never fit properly. And the top sheets have been so thin and ready for the rag pile. I've also noticed that "king" beds are not standard size, but a bit smaller. One year I took my own sheets since I hated theirs so much. Guess what -- my regular king fitted sheet was too big. I refer to them as faux king beds. I googled it and seems there is a size made especially for hotels.

We had a similar problem at Harbour Lake a few weeks ago. Clearly a queen size sheet was crammed on a king bed. It was actually torn to the point it would need to be thrown away.
We drive and always take our own set of sheets so I put our own king on and as @aka Julie indicated, it seemed pretty big for the bed. It was better than what they had though.

It could be worse. The Sheraton properties in Orlando only use flat sheets. That is why we bring our own sheets a long. There is nothing worse that flat sheets. Not a bed I want to have to remake every day.

Oh, I hate those that have flat sheets only, that's the worst of all. But yes, have experienced too small sheets at a number of MVCI properties, can't recall where but it does annoy me as well.

We have the same problem at home though. Even buying "deep pocket" sheets, they don't always fit well. Here and there we've found good ones where the fitted sheet actually works well. But then, sometimes the flat sheet for on top barely covers the edge of the bed on each side. Or, if they are wide enough, then they barely reach the foot of the bed. Sheets seem to be so non standard to me.

We bought the Marriott sheet set, pillow cases and duvet for our bed at home and that fitted sheet seems to fit our regular king just fine. Obviously the sheets they sell from Shop Marriott aren't exactly the same as the ones they use in their hotels. The same seems to go for the mattresses.

I love when they short-sheet the bottom sheet...I just think they are trying to save a buck and this is not the place to be cheap. Or, maybe their mattresses are so deep they can’t get sheets that fit? (Not really)

We always ask for an extra flat sheet so I can fix any problems.

Aha! It’s not just me! We were at MVC Waikoloa over Christmas and the bed was horrible! Not only did the sheets not fit, the bed itself was no way a “Marriott” bed. I choose Marriott as mt hotel chain of choice BECAUSE of their beds. Doesn’t matter which level of hotel, I have found consistency. Not so with MVC.

That being said, this was only my second MVC exchange, and I don’t care HOW fancy the rest of the unit or resort was, I would never buy MVC because of this.

The bottom sheet wasn’t even a fitted sheet! And the flat sheets were too short for the bed, so trying to use them as the bottom sheet was impossible. It was so bad that I asked at the front desk if they had a foam mattress topper they could send up and a fitted sheet. I told the lady I was talking to about my problems with the bed and she told me that she knew nothing about the rooms on the timeshare side.

To top it off, they then delivered another mistress COVER and a fitted QUEEN sheet.

Well, if that's true - that they make a king size that is smaller than a regular king, that would explain why normal king size sheets are too big. And again, if that's true, they probably have to use queen size sheets, which are too small. I wonder what the reason is behind having smaller kings... To make the rooms look bigger? To have more space? To save money on beds?

I think you hit the nail on the head. The smaller king saves space and makes the room look larger. I found this on the internet.

A lot of hotels use a "hotel king" for their beds. Standard King is 76" wide by 80" long. The California King Bed is more narrow, but longer (72" wide by 84" long). A "Hotel King" uses the smallest dimensions of both of those - it's the length of a standard king but the width of a California king.

If they are Hotel Kings, that is fine. I have no problem with the size of the bed. But WHY use sheets that are too small for the beds? It is uncomfortable for the guests, and the poor housekeeping staff are abused??

Exactly. So manufacturers make Hotel King beds so don't they also make Hotel King linens?

I also find the chairs too low for the dinning table.

I can’t remember which location it was that the dining chair seats were really deep. If you pushed them in all the way they hit the chair across the table. I really question some of the design choices that are made in the villas. A lot of them are not practical in my opinion.

Wel

Well that explains it! I often feel like we are sleeping in a queen bed at resorts; noticeably less wide than our king at home.
