I have a Marriott Rewards Account that has a total of 4,288 points that we have earned over the years ~~ We can't use these points & was wonderin if anyone here on the forum would like those points transfer to your account ~~ If anyone would like do to that ~~ please let me know ~~ I'll be happy to transfer them to your account instead of just cancelin my account with the points ~~

We have accounts for La Quinta, Hyatt & Starwood Hotel system rewards ~~ If anyone wants these points as well ~~ please contact me & will see if they can be transfered to your account ~~ Marriott is the only one I know of at this point that our points can be transfered ~~ :bawl:

Sue -

If one reads the Marriott Rewards T&C, it would seem pointless to try to transfer points, since the T&C allows transfers only to spouses and then only in connection with obtaining a Reward or at death.

However, in practice, Marriott allows transfers between others - but only in connection with obtaining a Reward. Thus, Conch Man won't be able to transfer his points unless the recipient first makes a Reward request and both parties then fax a signed transfer authorization form to Marriott. That requirement is not a big deal because Rewards (except for those that involve depositing FF miles to another program) can generally be canceled with no penalty.

Conchman,

You don't have to cancel your Rewards account even if you cancel the credit card.

It is always good if/when you stay at a Marriott and it can't hurt if you ask for an upgrade or nicer room location at the frontdesk as you flash the Reward card.

And they don't expire so who knows in 10-20 years, you may get something...

Pete

And they don't expire....
Not exactly. The T&C give Marriott the option to close an account that hasn't accrued new points within a 24-month period. In practice, Marriott doesn't currrently do this, but with the expiration restrictions being placed on FF accounts by some major airlines (US, UA and AA - so far), it's likely that the hotel programs won't be far behind.

Dave is right on both accounts ~~ In the process of gettin in contact with Marriott Rewards which only are open durin the week ~~ JimJ has contacted me & this upcomin Monday will call Marriott to see if I can start this process ~~ It does say they can only transfer to spouses account but I said something to them a couple of weeks ago & ask if I could transfer to any member of Marriott Rewards & they said it could be done ~~ Well ~~ I hope so ~~

Peter ~~ :hi:

Thnks for the kind advice & appricate your concern but we live in paradise & for the last several years haven't used any of the hotels I noted below ~~ We always end-up goin to Key West & these points I have left over can't be used there ~~

Contacted Marriott today & they said my points can be transfered to another account as long as that account has a reservation at one of their hotels or airline miles so that the certificate can be issued ~~ Each of the parties will be faxed or mailed for certified certificate is signed by each ~~ Pretty simple I guess ~~ She also stated that I can close my account & that my points will remain until I wish to re-open the account which I don't plan on doin ~~ There ya have it ~~ Wish the other hotel rewards program would do what Marriott is doin ~~ :bawl:

I made a reservation, the Conch Man contacted Marriott and they sent him a form, he signed it and sent it to me, I signed it and mailed it to Marriott and the points are now in my account in the form of a certificate. Marriott made one slip up which caused The Conch Man to make a call to Marriott, but in the end it worked.

Conchman,
We had a similar dilemma as we had too few points BUT we found a couple of solutions. One was to link a credit card to it so we could get free stays.
If you still have your Starwood points, you can use a relatively small amount (2000-3000 for a points plus pay for a nights accomodation.
Otherwise, you can use smaller amounts for services like spa treatments, massages, and the like. i don't think you have to stay in the actual hotel for these - you just need the points.
